And as for "do's" in biblical epics.... Aren't we glad THIS didn't become a trend? Sepiatone

Interesting how under-represented the men are in this thread. This snap interestingly enough is from The Pomades Blog. Pretty iconic head of hair or iconic star - or both?

I like this relatively simple hairdo Bette wore in A Stolen Life (1946). With the hair more relaxed, the face looked more relaxed too.

After her earlier high-maintenance glambot look, Marilyn's image got a reboot with a simpler, more casual hair style in The Seven Year Itch (1955). She looked less like a goddess from another realm and more like a human being who might actually walk among us. And after her professional reputation was in flux after Let's Make Love (1960) and The Misfits (1961) failed to connect with the public, she got another refresh with this light, airy concoction by Sydney Guilaroff for her unfinished film, Something's Got to Give (1962). Even with the sick days and the trip to sing for the President, a number of scenes were filmed and she looked stunning.

And fittingly for this thread and your comment, this shot is from "The Seven Year Itch:"

I've always thought Errol Flynn had a nice head of hair.

I like Gary Cooper's shaggy look as Wild Bill Hickock in Cecil B. DeMille's The Plainsman (1936). But, boy, did he clean up nice. I wonder what Hollywood studios' budgets for men's hair products were. There was a time when they all had this same slick look.

And how right you are. Other than long-haired wigs for period roles, their are no toupees on this guy.

I love the hairstyle Ginger Rogers chose to wear during the late 1940's and into the 1950's. It wasn't really what was in style at the time, but she made it look current.

I know both Bette Davis & Lauren Bacall have been mentioned previously in this thread, but I have some different photos that I'd like to share. Personally, I always love looking at the actors' hair in whatever movie I'm watching. There's something so aesthetically pleasing to me to see someone's hair parted perfectly and immaculately styled. Maybe something to do with my liking things to be neat and organized... Not sure which film this is from (anyone who knows, please chime in) but I absolutely LOVE the curls. Very symmetrical and just looks adorable. This is from Douglas Sirk's "Written on the Wind." Again, the part and the symmetrically immaculate styling... I don't know, I just love hair like this. Thanks noshear, for creating this thread. Fun photos to look at thus far.

Yes, Ann Todd has very pretty hair, but she also has perfect hair for her icy-blonde features and image.

Note the "John Milner" outtake jacket which was widely seen in this mid-1970s poster:
