The stuff about the two-weeks clause is interesting. They still use this on soap operas. The actors can be dismissed at the end of each 13-week cycle, even if they have a multi-year contract.
I had to chuckle when Walter Huston's name was mentioned. He died in 1950.

So we are told Kelly's character is a girl from the country...hence the title. Married to him for ten years...starting in 1944...their son died in 1946. She's 25 in real life, so she married him at 15 - "the country" must be the hill country.

Holden's overcoat looks like it could stop a small gauge bullet.
Dropping the $20 bill was obnoxious.

So we learn Holden's character is divorced.
Grace Kelly is obviously quite a bit younger than Bing Crosby.
There's a funny line here about how Juliettes turn into Lady MacBeths.

Supposedly she attempted suicide and became a drunkard after the death of the son.
She is regarded as domineering and possessive, with fits of depression. Is this true?
Also Crosby tell Holden that Kelly set fire to a hotel suite.
He started drinking and she stopped. Really?

This is one dark scene.

Women are depicted in an unflattering light with this dialogue.
Odets was married to actress Luise Rainer, and the marriage ended in divorce.
I like the line where they compare a darkened theater to a night without a star. Wonderful imagery.

Ah, the charming era when people would stamp out their cigarettes on the floor.

The Sardi's set was used a year earlier in FOREVER FEMALE which starred William Holden & Ginger Rogers.
Kelly's character is asked if she's a critic or a wife?

Musical flashback -- his son Johnny there conducting. LOL
So if this is 1946 when the boy died, and they were married in 1944, the kid would only be a year at the most. But he looks about 4 here.
