Such nice photos.
Glad it's now officially autumn. In Phoenix we had over 100 days in a row of temps over 100 degrees (from June to September). Now it is "down" in the low 90s, and I am so grateful!

I've decided to post a bonus song by Dino today after watching SEPTEMBER AFFAIR 1950 this afternoon on the thread - Sunday Live: Don't Be So Melodramatic! Topbilled hosted today's movie starring Joan Fontaine and Joseph Cotton - co-starring the wonderful Jessica Tandy. It was filmed in beautiful Italy and the song 'Come Back To Sorrento' was one of the many tunes in the film.
My mind thought about how Dean sang this song. He loved to sing and record in Italian.
I hope you enjoy Dean's version of this lovely tune.

Today, Wednesday, September 25, TCM primetime Spotlight: Studio Directors will be showing OKLAHOMA! 1955 and SOUTH PACIFIC 1958 - both musicals I like and were part of TCM's Summer Under The Stars festival in August. Later or early Thursday morning - 3:00 a.m. central time, TCM is showing OCEAN'S ELEVEN 1960 as part of that Spotlight, Dean's third film for September.
Originally Peter Lawford came across the story, thought it was good and showed it to Frank Sinatra who thought it would be great and pictured making it with his friends. Interestingly, only Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. have singing parts. Sammy sings 'E O Eleven' and Dean sings his hit song 'Ain't That A Kick In The Head'.
Starring Dean (of course), Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, Joey Bishop and the always beautiful Angie Dickinson - with a cameo appearance by Shirley MacLaine ( she actually has the best part if you ask me - she gets to throw Dean down on the hood of a car and kiss him!)
Like I would want that part!!!
So tune in with me and watch this fun New Year's Eve heist caper done 1960's style with some of the most stylish guys in the business!!!

The day before the wedding - the cousins are in from Georgia, friends and family from both sides from New York, California, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota and Canada will be here!
Tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. my lovely niece Emily will marry her true love Eric!!!
Dean Martin is singing this song for them -
Dean recorded 'In The Chapel In The Moonlight' in June 1967 as a single. It was then released in August 1967 on his LP 'Welcome To My World' - both recorded at Reprise Records.

Friday, October 4th at 9:30 a.m. central time, TCM will be showing TEN THOUSAND BEDROOMS 1957.
This is Dean's first movie he starred in after 'Martin and Lewis' ended their partnership. In TCM's documentary about Dean (Dean Martin King of Cool), they make light of this film. Although I agree that it's not Dean's best movie, for me it's entertaining. I enjoy the scenes of Italy, the fashion and there are some great songs.
Directed by Richard Thorpe, starring Dean Martin, Eva Bartok and Anna Maria Alberghetti (I love her voice) - co-starring Walter Slezak, Paul Henreid and Jules Munshin.
Here is a preview of the movie
Dean said after he made this film, that the best part was being in Italy with his wife Jeanne. He was happy to get away from Hollywood for a while after he left Paramount. He said he and Jeanne had a wonderful time getting away (and from their 7 children too! LOL)
So tune in with me Friday morning and we'll have some fun with Dino in Italy as he buys enough hotels to have Ten Thousand Bedrooms!

Just a note about the above movie - TEN THOUSAND BEDROOMS 1957 - FYI - This movie will be on TCM's film library until November 3rd in case you missed it or just want to watch it again sometime during the month. It's one that TCM doesn't play often and hasn't played for a long time.
Or like me, want to watch Dean over again! LOL

I caught it and especially enjoyed it for the location work in Italy. I wonder if it was part of a theme, because they also showed Mario Lanza's For the First Time (1959), which also had great location footage of Italy, especially Capri and Rome. Anna Maria Alberghetti did mostly stage work and TV, so it was fun seeing her on film. She also worked with this other familiar guy, though I haven't seen it since I was a kid:

Friday afternoon - October 11th at 2:15 p.m. central time - TCM will be showing MR. RICCO 1975, starring Dean Martin.
This was Dean's last starring role in a major motion picture. Dean had made a 5 picture deal with MGM and MR. RICCO was to be the first of these 5 movies. The lawyer/police story line had become a popular genre in Hollywood during the 1970's, However, Dean's health and his mood/mindset were not into it. He had lost interest in film making. So he broke his deal with MGM after this movie was made.
He and Jeanne had divorced and he'd married Catherine Hawn. The marriage lasted for 3 years and Dean filed for divorce. By the end of the 1970's he and Jeanne were back together. Jeanne had always been Dean's true love. They remained together until Dean died in 1995. They were together when their son, Dean Paul Jr. was killed in a plane crash - Dean Jr. was a pilot in the California Air National Guard. After his son's death, Dean had a hard time continuing to perform.
I found it interesting that TCM scheduled both, what I consider, Dean's first film TEN THOUSAND BEDROOMS 1957 and his last - MR. RICCO 1975, to be shown this month.
Dean plays the lawyer Joe Ricco who defends a man against a murder charge - wins - and the man is set free. All kinds of questions begin after that!
Co-starring Eugene Roche and Cindy Williams in one of her early movie roles.
Dean had a stunt double for most of the physical scenes, not like in his earlier film making days when he did his own. MGM did not promote this film much since Dean wanted out of the contract to make the following 4 movies. Yet, it's worth viewing, especially if you've never seen it before. For me, all of what Dean did is worth viewing! LOL
So join me in enjoying yet another film TCM doesn't show often and Dino in his final major movie performance!!!

TCM has placed MR. RICCO 1975 on it's film library until November 10, 2024.
So if you missed Dean's last starring movie role, then you can still catch it sometime within the next month. Rarely shown on TCM - I'm glad it will be available for a while.
I'll probably watch it again!

Yesterday was trumpeter Chris Botti's birthday. On his album 'ITALIA', released in 2007, he recorded a duet - he and Dean Martin (posthumously).
Here is that recording and one of Dean's famous songs.
Enjoy listening!

Me and Dean want everyone to have a great Columbus Day.
To celebrate Dean likes to sing in Italian -
Dean often sang and recorded in Italian. He first recorded this song - 'From The Bottom Of My Heart' in 1962.

TCM is showing OCEAN'S 11 1960, tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. central time. They showed this movie last month, but for those of you who didn't have a chance to see it or want to see it again, this would be a nice chance. TCM has been showing this film often on their cycle. To me, I think this would be a good end of year or New Year's movie since it's about a heist on New Year's Eve. I posted information last month - so you can scroll to read that. However, it stars Dino and his pallies in Vegas along with Angie Dickinson!
Relaxing and watching Dean is always a good thing!

Today is Johnny Carson's birthday celebration (October 23, 1925), so I wanted to have some fun. Here's a view of Dean with Johnny on The Tonight Show.
Dean was a guest on Johnny's show many times throughout the years. There are several more to view on line if you enjoyed this one.
Dean and Johnny were friends for a long time!
