I can't even tell you how much I love that cauldron! I hope next time in LA 2028 we can come up with something just as cool. I am so excited for the Olympics to come to my hometown so I can see an Olympic Flame in person!

As we officially enter the last weekend of the games, I gotta thank the city of Paris for hosting such a great event. What spectacular venues!
I gotta thank Paris TCM-style with a list of movies about Paris:
AN AMERICAN IN PARIS
GIGI
SILK STOCKINGS
CAN CAN
MIDNIGHT IN PARIS
THE GREAT RACE

Tom Tyler (born Vincent Markowski) played in silent films and early talkies, mostly westerns. He appeared as both Captain Marvel and The Phantom (with Ace the Wonder Dog!).
At the same time he was working in Hollywood, Tyler was a weightlifter and for a time considered the strongest man in the world. He held the record for the clean and jerk for well over a decade. He was at the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam.
Tragically, Tyler was crippled by rheumatoid arthritis and died at the young age of fifty.

I feel just like the Smith family in MEET ME IN ST LOUIS, except this time it’s LA that will be “the center of the entire universe.” And remember, part of the St Louis World’s Fair was the 1904 St Louis Olympics, so when Judy Garland sings “meet me at the fair,” the Olympics are included in that. Therefore MEET ME IN ST LOUIS can be considered a hometown Olympics movie.

Anton Geesink was a huge judoka who was the first to break the Shime-Waza that Japan held in judo at one time. He later brought further disappointment to Japan when he prevented a gold medal sweep by the 1964 Summer Olympics host country... The same year Kon Ichikawa's spectacular TOKYO OLYMPIAD was released, the Dutch Hercules was also seen in the following Italian production:

So exciting to see the gold medal basketball game just now. What a team! Stephen Curry alone got us so many points today, but Durant and LeBron were incredible as well. In their honor, a HOOSIERS gif: Next time in LA28 I hope we see another Gold!

And now for something completely different: Monty Python’s Silly Olympiad Their events include the steeplechase for people who think they are chickens, marathon for people with incontinence, and sprint for people with no sense of direction: Other Python Olympic events include International Hide & Seek and International Philosophy:

I like your idea, lonesomepolecat, about thanking Paris TCM style. . . so here's some more movies that revolve around that magnificent city.
FUNNY FACE 1957
THE RED BALLOON 1956
MOULIN ROUGE 2001
and APRIL IN PARIS 1952

I want to thank both lonesomepolecat and BunnyWhit for both their Olympic and movie knowledge - often combined - which was shared within this thread... A pair of highlights for me: "Bruce Bennett...won silver in Shotput at the 1928 Olympics under his real name Herman Brix If your name was Herman Brix, you’d change it too!" The funky Phantom from BunnyWhit:

What was everyone’s favorite Olympic moments of Paris 2024? So many for me, but I loved the crowds cheering for swimming gold medalist Leon Marchand, specifically chanting “Leon!” as he popped his head up for the breaststroke. What a lucky break for him to peak at an Olympics at home! The empty Tokyo arenas have really made me appreciate the size and volume of the crowds. I hope the LA28 crowds will be just as awesome.

I loved watching the Olympic Games in Paris 2024. It was great tuning in whenever I wanted to watch diving, track, fencing, tennis, swimming and golf - watching it the way Olympians do it - with such sportsmanship, style and heart.
I had tears in my eyes watching the Olympic Cauldron go out and be carried in the small lantern to the next Olympic games.
If I had to say what my favorite Olympic moment was - it would be that it happened. It is beyond wonderful that the world can stop and play together for two weeks!!! To get to know each other, appreciate others strengths and dreams. Stand by each other, give strength to one another.
We'll remember Paris - Dean Martin is going to sing a serenade to Paris.
Au revoir et Merci Paris!!!
The flame will be in Los Angeles in four years. The city of dreams and Hollywood. So, we'll meet again to play together the way Olympians do!!!
