Olympian Biopic starring the Olympian himself: THE BOB MATHIAS STORY (1954)
Bob Mathias won Gold in Decathlon in both the 1948 & 1952 Olympics
Yes, lonesomepolecat, that's a clever catch: I thought of the famous Bob Mathias shot when I first saw the Glenn Morris shot too!!

I was really inspired today by Urakine winning gold and bronze in high jump and gold in women's fencing as well
The Ukranian athletes have been saying they are competing in the name of all the Ukranian athletes who had to stop training to join the war, many of which have been killed (I think they said 400 athletes signed up and got killed).
It reminded me of other Olympic hopefuls throughout the years who had to pause their Olympic dreams to fight for their country, some of which never had the chance.
A movie example is GALLIPOLI
Mark Lee begins the movie by training to be an Olympic Sprinter who has to fight instead
He is then killed at the battle of Gallipoli in WWI on what is now called ANZAC Cove ("Australia & New Zealand Army Corp") in honor of these young soldiers

Artistic Seimming started today So naturally I’m thinking of Esther Williams, the Queen of Syncronized Swimming She started as a competitive swimmer who broke world records and was all set to compete in the 1940 Olympics, but they were canceled due to the war

While films such as the year of LIVING DANGEROUSLY and WITNESS had yet to be yielded with the release of Gallipoli, Picnic at Hanging Rock and THE LAST WAVE had, arguing that director Peter Weir already had reached Mount Olympus.

Artistic Seimming started today Artistic Swimming is one of my favorite Olympic events. Also, the Rhythmic Gymnastics.
They are both very underrated as being considered "athletic" (hence the time they are shown on TV), but if you watch, you'll see why they are athletes!

Athlete cameos are abundant in movies, but one special one is worth mentioning: PAT AND MIKE Katharine Hepburn plays a round of championship golf with Babe Didrikson, playing herself Apart from being a golf pro, Babe Didrikson was an Olympic athlete who won 2 golds and 1 silver in Track and Field events in the 1932 LA Games

Episode of MASH -- "The MASH Olympics"
Colonel Potter uses the 1952 Helsinki Olympics as an excuse to get his people to exercise. Klinger lights the Olympic torch:
Then BJ and Hawkeye head two teams that face off in events like crutch races

A MILLION TO ONE (1934)
Monte Blue wins the Olympic Decathlon, but is disqualified due to that antiquated rule about "professionalism", so he raises his son Bruce Bennett (billed under his Olympic name Herman Brix) in track and field so he can compete at the Olympics. Joan Fontaine plays the Juliet-type love interest daughter of Monte Blue's rival who won the medal after Monte's disqualification.

Congrats to Team USA’s first artistic swimming medal in 20 years! I already mentioned Esther Williams, so in their honor I mention the granddaddy of Esther Williams movies, the “By a Waterfall” number from FOOTLIGHT PARADE

I thought one of the most interesting Olympic stories today was about the US ice skaters getting their gold medals from the 2022 Winter Olympic games in Beijing China.
What wonderful Olympians!
