Odd that the errand boy all of a sudden changes his tune and knows the arsenic was for cosmetic use? He told the druggist at the time he had no idea. Someone has been briefed and or bribed. Maybe he's now coming to Madeleine's window every night.

Barry Jones did a great job as the prosecuting attorney.
This film is just full of so many great British character actors.

There goes Mr. Minnoch, exiting the courtroom. Never to be seen or heard from again. Wooland does far too good a job there - made me feel nauseous. I would say he should look upon it as a narrow escape but it seems the real life Madeleine had no other suspicions in her life.

Defense attorney is played by Andre Morell. Brilliant performance - right up to the camera. Nice. And the collapse back at the table - nice touch.

Defense attorney is played by Andre Morell. Our rapscallion friend from "Cash on Demand."

Wonderful shot at the end with just the tiniest hint of a smile.

Sorry Noel, brilliant closing in the carriage. Guilty or not guilty? We'll never know.

While our justice systems issues a verdict of "guilty" or "not guilty," since the burden of proof is on the the state to prove the charge, quite often a verdict of "not guilty" is really one of "not proven." What struck me as clearly different was that Scottish law, back then anyway, seemed to only need a majority of jurists to reach a decision and not unanimous agreement amongst jurists as we require.

Thanks for this, Fading Fast. I'm more impressed with Ann Todd with each movie.

Yes thank you FF and everyone. So much fun (if it is ok to describe true crime as such!?)

Great selection.
Thanks to Fading Fast for choosing MADELEINE (1950)...and to everyone who joined today's screening.

Thank you to everyone for the kind comments - I'm really glad everyone seemed to enjoy this movie - but it was Topbilled who convinced me to go with "Madeleine" and not "The Paradise Case" as he, rightfully, argued Todd had so much more screen time in this one.
[Earlier, I posted "Witness for the Prosecution" not "The Paradise Case" as clearly I'm losing my mind.]
