After watching Black Angel (Universal 1946), on Noir Alley last weekend, I wondered what the film would have been like if Durbin had been cast instead of June Vincent. Durbin was 1 year younger than Vincent, so she would have fit the role. Durbin was a top notch singer and thus wouldn't have needed to be dupped. Note that less than a year before Black Angel, Universal did cast both Duryea and Durbin in a film, Lady on a Train. |

Yes, Bobby Van was a good dancer and very talented. But he came up when musicals were on the downside and there just wasn't enough musicals, and thus enough work, for new talent, let alone the 30s and 40s dancers that were still in showbiz. |
