A series of gossipy letters cause more damage than anyone ever intended. The film is a remake of the French film Le Corbeau (The Raven, 1943) directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot. I've seen both and preferred the French film, but the American version is good and one of the better roles for the lovely Linda Darnell.

I found a disc copy of this film, which I had traded for something with another classic movie fan online ten years ago. I am wondering if the print quality is better than the one on the Russian site. I think the person had recorded it off the old Fox Movie channel, and usually they showed restored versions. It's never aired on TCM.

Yesterday, I spent about twenty minutes looking for a better on-line copy than the RU site, but I had no luck. It's a shame, as the copies out there aren't great, but still good enough to watch. I've never seen this one, so a better copy would be really nice as you lose a lot from what the audience at a theater experienced, but it is what it is.

I thought this film had been released by Fox through it's Cinema Archives line in the mid-2010s, but apparently it was not. Did you check out your disc yet to see if it is a better copy? I am checking it now...actually, this was recorded off the old AMC channel in the 1990s...! So it is not a restored copy. But the sound quality is good and aside from looking a bit washed out in spots, the visual quality is acceptable.
There's another Otto Preminger film that Fox never issued on home video...the musical comedy-drama CENTENNIAL SUMMER (1946) which also stars Linda Darnell.

The original French version of the story, LE CORBEAU (1943), was restored by Criterion. And a copy of it with English subtitles, is on the Russian site:

Fawn: "I'm a bit nervous about today's movie."
Me: "Why?"
Fawn: "I don't like the number thirteen."
Me: "Nobody likes the number thirteen, but don't tell me you're superstitious?"
Fawn: "Of course not, I just think the number thirteen is unlucky."
Me: "What exactly do you think the word 'superstitious' means?"
Fawn: "Right now I think it means you're being a jerk to me."
Me: "Sigh."
Fawn: "I do think I could play the young handsome doctor part, played by Michael Rennie, in today's movie."
Me: "Don't start that again."
Fawn: "Fine, did you remember the Sno-Caps? You sometimes forget the Sno-Caps."
Me: "How could I, you ask me about them almost every day?"
Fawn: [mumbling] "Somebody's touchy."
Me: "Shh, movie's starting."
Fawn: "Remember, go soft on the keyboard."
Me: "Really?"
Fawn: "Shh, the credits are rolling."
The Fawn slides over to make room for me on the sofa as he, unsolicited, moves his popcorn bucket between us and passes me a soda.

LOL I do think Fawn would be good as the doctor, or Klaatu, either one.
I'm just wishing doctors still made house calls. I would wear my black negligee, just like Linda Darnell.

Today's a "no net" day for me, as I've never seen the movie and, other than reading a small bit about the movie on IMDB, I don't know anything about it. I had never even heard of it till it came up on the schedule here.
