New rules for the NFL No more running the ball to the end zones on a fumble recovery or a pass interception - DELAY OF GAME So you're saying that when the defensive team recovers a fumble or pass interception the ball is "dead"; I.e. the defensive team gets that ball at the yard-marker where they recovered? It appears that what you're saying; If so, why would you wish for such a rule change? Note that some coaches have this as an internal rule for certain players (e.g. a lineman not used to handing the ball), but that is done to avoid a turnover of the turnover!

I mean when the ball is dead. A pass interception or fumble recovery by the defensive team. The whistle has blown and the play is over. The team then runs all the way down to the end zone for a display of joy.. I"m surprised that this is not delay of game. I see that I did not express it well before.

Ok, I see your point; running to the end-zone after the ball is dead is showboating and thus (since there is no reason for it) a delay of game. As you note the whistle has been blown, but how to we know all the players have heard it? Note that in one of the games the announcers praised the player for continuing the play with some type of "well you never know" comment. Maybe this was the play that made you think of this rule change? My understanding is that it can be difficult to hear the whistle in certain stadiums; E.g. KC and Seattle. If I was the coach I would advise my players to be safe-instead-of-sorry. I.e. no player would wish to be the one didn't run to the end zone when the play was NOT over.

What I talking about is the play is definitely over and they run down to showboat, they don't think it's a live ball, they are happy that they got a fumble and they are showboating, like you said.
I see the other point and yes, it will occur that a player will recover a fumble or intercept a pass but good officials will let the play run through and make calls later, if necessary. That' NOT what I am talking about.

So will he play again? It's too early to tell and probably even to early to discuss. He has passed all those examinations, He will have time to recover more completely during the off season. To think that he might go back out on a playing field during a game is cringe worthy to me.

To think that he might go back out an play gives me a very positive feeling. As long as he wasn't taking any more risk than any other player; I.e. taking unreasonable risk because the pay is great. Of course I read the Los Angeles Times where the overall point of view there is that the NFL should be banned because the sport is like Russian roulette; putting big bucks in front of people with little other options in their life to risk injury and or death (and they even had the POV that since the majority of players are black, that maybe the sport is a form of forced labor\slavery).

After what happened, it's not out of the question to think of him as fragile. If he makes a full recovery and doctors approve his returning to the game, I am all for it.

Thanks for adding this clarity: Yea, my point was based on the assumptions I listed, but clearly no one knows at this stage if he will be healthy enough to return.

Anyone with any picks today? I'm going with the 49ers and the Jags. The Charger are 1.5 favorite but got whupped 38-10 earlier in the season. The Charger are however an improved team.
What say you, anyone?

The Chargers got too many easy points early. They can't handle it.
