Shoot the breeze about whatever matchup you're watching during the regular NFL season or playoff run, which is starting in two months (already!). Didn't we just finish baseball?

Good one at the Meadowlands. Jets-Bills tied at 17, middle 4th quarter. Bills qb, Allen, running like a back as usual.
Jets starting RB, Michael Carter, looking good against this formidable Bills defense (1 TD, 76 yards), though a couple of key guys are out today.

Bills blew this one (IMO), especially with that dumb Hail Mary pass at the end. Jets looking good. Now, 6-2.
Another (formerly) 5-3 team, the Seahawks, are playing the Cardinals, leading with a DeAndre Hopkins TD, 7-3. Like to see former Jet qb, Geno Smith, doing well in Seattle. Go Hawks!!

Seattle pulled it out, beating the Cardinals, 31-21, staying on top in the NFC West. Tom Brady surpassed the 100,000 passing yard record today. Missed that. Too bad.

Andy Dalton is still playing football? lol Interconference game. Haven’t watched Lamar Jackson and the Ravens yet this season so tonight’s a good time to catch ‘em. Doesn’t look like Dalton has elite pass catchers against a likely stout Ravens defense. Not sure if any team can successfully run against Baltimore. Play calling will probably either ruin or make the Saints tonight.

Saints QB, Andy Dalton, about to get sacked during one of the four times the Ravens took him down tonight. Ok, it didn’t take rocket science to call this one but how so many didn’t see the complete dominance of Baltimore is what surprises me. Saints aren’t a good team. But I’m hesitating to call the Ravens Super Bowl bound. But Jeez, they’ve really got no seriously challenging matchups through the rest of 2022. Playoff bound? Yeah. Division winner? Probably.

Bills fan here and, man, was this one a heartbreaker today. That ending killed me. Good game, in any case (highlights below).

That was the Jets game last week. I thought you meant yesterday, But still not, strictly speaking, not a Hail Mary in the Jets game. It was a long pass, yes. But was not a Hail Mary pass as the term is understood. A Hail Mary occurs when the line of scrimmage is around the 50 yard line with only a few seconds left. The ball is thrown high in the air and meant to fall into the end zone. Wikipedia describes it as an "alley-oop" arc. The probability of success is particularly low, hence a Hail Mary. Then it's sort of a jump ball in the end zone. You're putting up for grabs. That's not what happened in Jets game. Allen had an intended receiver. There is no intended receiver with a Hail Mary. That's why it is called that. The quarterback 'prays' that a team mate will catch it. But it is rare.
The first two examples on this video are NOT Hail Mary passes IMO. They are last-ditch passes but they have intended receivers. Please note the rest of them. They are just put up and the QB hopes of course that his teammate will catch but has no control who will catch it all. The rest are.
Anyway, as I see it anyway. i respect your take.
Cheers

Too loose a term to codified. But I love the video! Thanks.

Missed this Monday Night matchup; I like the Eagles this year. Something of an upset. But Washington's had the biggest (seasonal) choker teams. Giants are still my favorites in that division.

Your welcome. One of the most exciting plays in the game. If it succeeds everybody goes crazy, including the announcers, who go ballistic.
I was rooting for the Commanders for the upset. They were remarkable on offense. Heinicki seemed a magician in the first half, at one point the C were 11 out 15 Third down conversions.. Early in the third period the Commanders led in time of possession, the minutes were 30-7, quite remarkable. I was disgusted with that missed face mask. I give the Eagles the probability of winning if that penalty had been called. Well, I guess members of the 1972 Miami Dolphins are having their party, which they used to do whenever a team threatens to go undefeated. Anyone still alive would have to be somewhere between 75-85 years old today.

Haha. Were you around to watch any of that Dolphins season? Birdz just got sloppy in the last moments of Monday’s game (judging from the highlights) but interesting to hear about an especially aggressive DC offense. Wasn’t it their characteristic defense that really secured the win (I don’t just mean that final defensive TD)? Sanders and Lockett have been two of my favorites, pass-catching wise, for years (primarily Sanders) but I can’t say the Birdz have really gelled as a team. Varying levels of fairly talented players but not a crack unit, yet, imo. Probably needed this loss to regroup, tighten up and form a real identity, particularly with the rookie HC.
Though I wish em well I can’t root for the former skins in any iteration. Too many years of being burned. Probably best to forget all that old drama.

A good defense is a good offense. DC certainly did that, and best used against an offense like the Eagles. Keep them off the field and use up time. I hadn't seen either of these teams. I was floored by Heinicke. He doesn't appear to all that agile, he simply dropped back and found guys open, especially in the first half. It looked so easy, I thought how can this team be 4-5? Yes, i was around for that '72 season. I haven't looked anything up about it but I remember they won the Super by a thin margin, three points? And their kicker was instrumental. I know his name very well but my recall fails me a lot these days. I was so glad to see the Patriots have their bid ruined by a Eli led Giant team in either '07 or '11. You see, I can't remember which. But I remember they were both Eli. I am a fair-weather Charger fan but I do wish them well when they are doing well. They are struggling now and have KC next week. My reasonable mind says, no way ; but my football mind says, we just don't know.. No one, or very few thought that DC would beat the birdz, ...
