Another haunted house -- THE UNINVITED (1944)
Ray Milland and Ruth Hussey buy a haunted house whose ghost reveals a mystery....

THE UNINVITED is undoubtedly my favorite movie to watch around Halloween, although many others I enjoy have been mentioned here.
THE UNINVITED gets my vote as favorite because it combines spookiness with humor. And I like it that instead of being driven out of the haunted house, Ray and sister Ruth take a very matter-of-fact attitude toward finding out why the house is haunted.

It’s also Halloween on Broadway! SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET Stephen Sondheim’s Magnum Opus is perfect for Halloween. Come for the violence and gore, stay for Angela Lansbury! THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA Andrew Lloyd Webber’s long running smash hit that combines horror and romance. There is a movie version of the show, but I recommend the 25th Anniversary Concert at Royal Albert Hall with Sierra Bogess LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS Howard Ashman took everything he loved about the original cult classic film then improved the plot and added songs with Alan Menken. Incredible puppetry as well!

Another Broadway show-turned-film deserves a separate post. Due to the Yankees playing the World Series during Halloween, and as a native Angeleno (GO DODGERS!), I HAVE to include the movie that’s been on my mind: DAMN YANKEES This isn’t usually thought of as a Halloween movie, but it does have the devil in it. And since the World Series is always in the fall, it definitely counts as a fall flick.

If we're going with the devil....I'd submit that The Devil and Daniel Webster (1936) is an excellent choice, and Bedazzled (1967 or 2000; take your pick) is also a worthy fit.
Spooky is as spooky does!

How about a Halloween double feature with Bob Hope & Paulette Goddard?
THE GHOST BREAKERS
THE CAT AND THE CANARY

This frightening film is perfect for Halloween/October viewing. DRESSED TO KILL 1980, starring Angie Dickinson, Michael Caine and Nancy Allen.
Don't watch alone!

That movie does sound scary! The scariest movies to me are the ones that are actually possible. Monster movies and ghost stories are just fun thrill rides, but one of the scariest movies to me is CAPE FEAR with Robert Mitchum AAAAAHGHGH!!!!!!

Would make a great scary double feature with Night of the Hunter (1955)!

Claude Rains is a favorite of mine and I like him in this early role of THE INVISIBLE MAN 1933.
Based on H. G. Wells' novel and great for October viewing!

OK, lonesomepolecat - here are a few television Halloween/October shows that I like.
christine, though Halloween's still a week away, I want to make sure everyone gets some sort of treat that doesn't go overlooked - time permitting... I got some Harvey comics when I was a kid and still like the television set or sets seen running down the left-side of those vintage front covers: Hope your Halloween is a Happy affair...

I like your thought of giving a treat to everyone NoShear, so here's mine - I hope it will bring a nice Autumn memory or thought to whoever reads this.
This is one of my trees. It's an American Red Bud and has the most beautiful golden leaves in Fall that have just started to change. I took this picture yesterday!
Everyone should enjoy a wonderful Autumn drink of hot apple cider while relaxing by a fire thinking of this lovely season!
