Just rewatched A QUIET PLACE, a fun scary movie for Halloween, and admired all the lovely fall foliage in their town!

1999 and thereabouts is probably my favorite film period this side of circa 1974 At least two of '99's films fall nicely in this thread: Said to have made its United States debuts at a pair of film festivals 25 years ago this month - Set in October of 1994 - You got me thinking about movies feom 1999, so I realized THE IRON GIANT has some beautiful animated fall colors

For an October/Halloween flick, you can't forget about Alfred Hitchcock's PSYCHO 1960, starring Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, Vera Miles and John Gavin.
Classic!

Today I watched THE CANTERVILLE GHOST with Charles Laughton as the title ghost: and Margaret O'Brien as the 6-year-old Lady of the Castle It's a doubly appropriate movie for Halloween because the ghost is wearing PUMPKIN pants! wocka wocka!

OK, lonesomepolecat - here are a few television Halloween/October shows that I like.
CASPER THE FRIENDLY GHOST - first aired on November 16, 1945.
The gothic daytime drama DARK SHADOWS. Aired June 27, 1966 to April 2, 1971. I used to watch it when I got home from school - it drove my mom nuts! - but I loved it!!!
- and can't forget IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN 1966 by Charles M. Schulz. I watch it every year!

Just watched another fun ghost movie, THE GHOST GOES WEST with RObert Donat as the Scottish Ghost of Glourie Castle
It's funny how this satire of Americans is still accurate -- First grocery tycoon Eugene Palette buys the castle on a whim only to bring it to Florida. Then when he finds out it's haunted, he plans to use the ghost as an advertising stunt for his grocery store chain. Yep, this all scans.

One of my favorites for this time of year is the psychological thriller DIABOLIQUE 1955, starring Simone Signoret and Vera Clouzot.
Directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot.
I discovered this film years ago when I was studying French in college and would go see French movies to practice - I've been a fan ever since!

I think no film disturbed me more upon first viewing than THE INNOCENTS (1961.) This scene in particular made my heart race:

Another creepy Sci-Fi film that fits on the list of Halloween/October movies is INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS 1978, starring Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Veronica Cartwright, Jeff Goldblum and Leonard Nimoy.
I always liked this version because I'm a Donald Sutherland fan!

Thanks for this addition — just have to add a special shout out to the original version because I grew up a few miles away from this very square:

Oh lonesomepolecat, E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL 1982 is one of the best films Steven Spielberg ever directed - and there's quite a few on that list! E.T. was such a sweet, gentle character - I love that movie!!!
E.T. trick or treating - how cute!!! It is a classic!

How about a comedy which takes place on Halloween? The home even has a cemetery apparently in the front yard. ARSENIC AND OLD LACE (1944). This scene with Cary Grant, Peter Lorre and Raymond Massey always makes me laugh:
