It all started the night Mrs. Crosbie shot her lover dead.

Why not just have the sap drop directly into the big bucket?
Would the staff quarters really be that close to the main house?

"Tell my husband there's been an accident and Mr. Hammond is dead."
So accident is a euphemism for murder. LOL

"He tried to make love to me and I shot him."
Now the dialogue would be: "He attacked me." Or "He tried to rape me." Or "He forced himself on me and I had no choice but to defend myself."

On the subject of euphemisms, "make love to me," apparently, in movies made under the Code, means everything from flirt playfully, through courting and even rape. It's a very expansive term.

Herbert Marshall's Robert is the main reason I love this movie. He's the perfect, loyal, protective husband. Poor innocent lamb.

I love his performance in THE LITTLE FOXES, too. And he has some good scenes with her in THE VIRGIN QUEEN, as a loyal advisor to the court.

The house is a blend of British colonialism and mid-century American modern.

He is outstanding in "The Little Foxes" (an excellent movie) as he more than holds his own in his scenes with Davis, which he had to do or the movie would not have worked. She beats him down, but can't drive over him. It's the key to the entire movie.

Eagles' interpretation is different than Davis', but she is insanely good in the role.
