Forgot it started right with the murder.
The scene with the cop on the pier's amusing...
"Go on home before we both take a swim."
When he hits his nightstick on the railing, that loud ping really effective.

The cinematography for the scene where Carson is trapped in the house is absolutely fantastic.

The cinematography for the scene where Carson is trapped in the house is absolutely fantastic. Agree. They pulled out all the stops. Top notch.

Jack Carson is great in that scene, even up to the way he says, "yeah-huh" when the cop asks him if he was going to the station to report the murder.

She will need to tell Moroni Olsen the whole story...

Once again, this time the scene in the police station waiting room is incredibly stylized. Just fantastic. The ticking clock is perfect.

Does she have a 2X4 holding up the shoulders in that fur she's wearing?

Once again, this time the scene in the police station waiting room is incredibly stylized. Just fantastic. The ticking clock is perfect. I like how slow and methodical it is. If this was a one-hour crime drama, these types of scenes would be quick and the story much more compressed. Here we have the luxury of time to see the characters breathe and sweat.

That Veda, "Smirking her way through a piano piece any five year old could play." He had her number, even then.

I know Veda hates it, but I think their house is adorable.

Veda ages from 13 to 17 in this film. In the book, there is a nine-year span of time, and the book is set from 1931 to 1940. But the film sets the story from 1939 to 1943.
