Join Us This is an emotional story about a mother who would do anything for her family. The title character faces hardship and loss like one might expect in a melodrama, including the tragedy of a young child dying of pneumonia so that Joan Crawford may be afforded a four-star hankie moment. But it is neither this setback nor her troubled marriage that generates as much sympathy as the relationship she has with an ungrateful older daughter, played by Ann Blyth.

Plus you get to see Joan on the receiving end of a slap for a change.
And Kudos to all of 5'2" Ann Blyth as she throws a mean right cross.

I saw an interview with Ann Blyth (probably on TCM) where she talked about how thrilled she was, at such a young age, to get to act with the great Joan Crawford. She mentioned how awed she was by Joan's beautiful face. As we were saying last week, our generation doesn't always see that because of the harsh make-up and hair styles of the period.

I can't remember the last time I watched MILDRED PIERCE. I know it's been over a year. So I'm looking forward to this tomorrow!

I've been chuckling about this GIF all week as, when the check that Crawford is tearing up, which sparks Blyth's ire in the first place, goes flying up as confetti when Crawford gets b*tch slapped is freakin' hilarious.

I'm here early to start on the chicken and waffles. Several years ago, my girlfriend made chicken and waffles as a meal for us as we watched them movie. Honestly, it's too much food for me - waffles or chicken is quite enough - but it was fun to do.

Forgot it started right with the murder.
The scene with the cop on the pier's amusing...
"Go on home before we both take a swim."

Barney should have known something was up the minute she invited him.
