"The Winslow Boy" is a 1948 drama about a father's fight to clear his son's name after he is expelled from a military school. The story (originally a play) is inspired by a real event. The case set precedent because the school's rules were Royal Navy rules and the Royal Navy never sues it's own king. What always moves me about this film is the father's unconditional love and support for his quite ordinary boy. Mr. Winslow is opposite extreme from last week's Dr. Sloper in "The Inheritance." Starring: Cedric Hardwicke as the father, Robert Donat as the lawyer for the defense, and Margaret Leighton as the steadfast, loyal daughter of the house.

This is a great choice and that is a wonderful summary. Leighton's character, it could be argued (at least by someone silly like me), is the most-interesting one in the movie.

I have only seen excerpts from a few key scenes...I've never seen the whole film all the way through, so I am looking forward to this one!

Margaret Leighton as the Winslow daughter: She's my favorite character and, IMHO, the most interesting character in it.

"I'm much too keen on the prospect of getting you off our hands, already."
"I'm not sure I like that 'already'."
Good for her.
