Hey everyone,
I'd like to do something a bit fun. Let me know what you think about the idea...
Every week someone different will choose a movie that we can watch "live" and comment on at the same time. Since not everyone has cable (or TCM) or an unlimited streaming budget, I was thinking it should be a movie that people can watch for free on YouTube. Are you with me so far?
I will pick the first movie to get things started. My choice? MARJORIE MORNINGSTAR (1958) starring Gene Kelly & Natalie Wood. The movie runs 2 hours and 2 minutes.
On Sunday November 6th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:02 p.m. (Arizona Time), I will watch MARJORIE MORNINGSTAR on YouTube and post live comments in this thread. If you would like to join in, then please watch it at the same time and add comments while the movie plays.
I am choosing MARJORIE MORNINGSTAR because I am interested in Gene Kelly's dramatic roles and because TCM has never aired it.

The time might be just fine, let's see who else chimes in.

The time might be just fine, let's see who else chimes in. Yes, I thought Sunday afternoon might be when people who are interested in joining would have a bit of free time. I'd like to keep it around 3 p.m. if possible.
MARJORIE MORNINGSTAR is about two hours, but some films will be shorter.
I see this as 'stream of conscious' with comments about the scenes, the fashions, the cars, the actors, whatever comes to mind when watching it live.

I think it's a great idea and an excellent choice of movie. I've always heard it was a classic story, but I've neither read nor watched it.
Any time Sunday morning or afternoon is good for me.

I have been re-reading the book, which I first read many years ago. In conjunction with reading it, I watched the movie on youtube recently. I can remember when this movie used to be shown on TV and don’t know why it isn’t anymore, along with a number of other movies for that matter. For a while I watched the film only up to the point where I had read, but the book has a lot more in it than the movie (as most books usually do), and so I just went ahead and finished the movie and am still reading the book.
So I won’t be watching it tomorrow, but I will be interested in reading the comments. Not sure the time that you’re watching it would be good for me anyway. Is Arizona time Central Standard Time or Mountain Time? I’m in Eastern Standard Time.

Arizona does not observe daylight savings. So tomorrow Arizona time will be the same as Mountain time.
Will be watching MARJORIE MORNINGSTAR from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

I read the book twenty-plus years ago when I read through many of Herman Wouk's books - "Winds of War" and "The Caine Mutiny" are still favorites. I remember enjoying "Marjorie Morningstar," but thinking it was not as good as his best books. The man could write. I've never seen the movie (or don't remember if I did), but am not free Sunday at that time. However, I now want to watch it soon and look forward to reading everyone's comments.

Ever think of doing an actual YouTube Live Stream, TB? I think you'd need to clear the rights to stream before you go live but I've attended many live classic film streams on YouTube and they're a hoot - depending on the crowd (the livlier, the better). Might make a live screening more enticing than having to toggle or keep two windows open at the same time.

That's an interesting idea...and perhaps something that would work well with an interview that people can watch live. I will have to mull this over and think about it some more.
I will be watching MARJORIE MORNINGSTAR on my smart TV, since I can watch YouTube on it...then I will be posting live in this thread using my laptop.

Just put on Morningstar, which I'm watching in between plays on the Seahawks-Cardinals game.
Never seen this Natalie Wood film. Interesting convo she had with her mother, Claire Trevor (who I barely recognized), 7 minutes in. 18 is kinda old for a birds and the bees chat!
Just realized I'm an hour too early. Sorry! Be back.

Okay...just started playing the movie...
Gene Kelly is billed first. This was after his MGM contract ended. Natalie Wood is billed second. I read that Warner Brothers wanted Liz Taylor for this role, initially.
