That spin wins you more from Fat Possum my friend!911 357 oh my! We are certainly not in Kansas any more here folks. Since I have been taking liberties with links to films with my jukebox picks, please allow me to make amends by noting: The label has very kindly put the full documentary online for free. Fabulous film. You See Me Laughin': The Last of the Hill Country Bluesmen (2002)www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiW3oPv1vZc

Well too...... There's this.... And also this.... Very Yummy Yummy Sepiatone Sorry to be so obvious but this is just too deliciously delectable to miss I was thinking of adding that too. The one from The Jeff Beck Group's "Truth" LP with Rod doing the vocal. But wasn't close enough to the other titles. Silly, I know. So I'll do it now... Sepiatone

Here's some classic TV for you. "Music Monster Mash" came and went on the BBC in October of 1969. The idea was to feature bands playing live, not miming, and playing more than just their latest hit. Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac appeared on the first broadcast on October 7th.
On the left is Jeremy Spencer, in the middle is Danny Kirwan, and at the mic is of course Peter Green (1946-2020), still in control of the band and his faculties. Mick gets some camera time on percussion, and John McVie can be glimpsed peeking out of the shadows behind and between Jeremy and Danny.
Peter is playing what was to become a highly valued 1959 Les Paul, which he gave (or sold, depending on the source) some time after he walked away from his band in 1970, to guitarist Gary Moore, in whose hands it suffered quite a bit of wear, tear and modification. It is today owned, and gigged with, by Kirk Hammett, who paid an unknown sum likely approaching the million dollar mark. ("You can tell the men from the boys by the price of their toys.")
Oh Well.

My local PBS is in pledge mode and repeated one of those "My Music" specials with acts from the 1960's, one of which was The Orlons, one of those-three-women-and-a-guy groups. (The Exciters were another.) They were a favorite in my youth and it really tickled me to see them as old fogies like me, but boy did they tear through a great version of Wah Watusi. I felt simultaneously old and happy to be alive. They were best known for that and South Street, but this redo of a Gary U.S. Bonds song was always my fave: Great to see The Orlons are still out touring and performing. BTW Old Fogie is the new 20. Your post has been on my mind. I keep checking on myself to see if I am fully cured from this PBS stunt. Tactic. Brilliance. They sent me into something akin to the 7 stages of grief but I think I am over it now. Year 1. Huh? Why is PBS playing this low brow stuff I love but must find elsewhere? Year 2. Isn't that nice PBS is playing those great music programs again. I must pledge. Year 3. What on earth? PBS only plays music gems at pledge time. I will never pledge again. Year 4, 5, 6. More palpitations, blood pressure checks, smelling salts and boycotts. Year 7: This year I checked their amount to pledge to get the Big Band special.

It may have been a few days since you last heard "Gimme Shelter" but I bet you haven't heard it over a montage of Godard clips.
Smartly edited.

Sorry, Lucky Dan, I've never been a big Stones fan. More Beatles, really. But then, as my mother used to say, even they "took schtinky" in the late 60's. My summers at the pool in those years were filled with MoTown -- we lived in a little farming community in Northwest Ohio and could pick up the great CKLW out of Windsor, Ont. "C-K-L-W.... The Motor City!" (Sepia probably remembers that on-air jingle)
Oh, yeah... Good Times.

Not even "Gimme Shelter?" Dam. Even if you don't like the recording, and forgive me but I find that very odd, you can still appreciate how the Godard clips were timed to the music.

OK, you're forcing me to go where I normally wouldn't with your Jo Stafford post. Jo and her husband Paul Weston had a neat party trick which involved him playing slightly off-key and her doing the same with her singing, resulting in the hilariously clueless duo of Jonathan and Darlene Edwards. By popular demand they recorded a couple of albums and hearing one of them in the bookstore of the town to which I'd recently moved as a youngster convinced me I was in the right place and I've been there ever since. Check out the two right hands.

Sho' 'nuff briann....... And newsman BYRON MacGregor's deep resonating voice. And of course, their program director Rosalie Trombley, the subject of this guy's well known tune---- And in that clip you might notice a few shots of the "Big 8" radio personality Terry Knight, who left the station to manage and promote THIS somewhat successful band.... My favorite GFR tune for sure. Sepiatone

Check out the two right hands. Please, you must always boldly go where you don't want to go in this juke joint. I had no idea Jo Stafford had a secret identity. Cool. I am not embarrassed to admit I have such a tin ear (or my love for Jo is so overwhelming my senses) that the song you posted sounds really good to me! Crazy. One wonders what auto-tune would do with it. I had to pop off to the internets to try to find them performing live and I am convinced I have died and gone to heaven. There is a most brilliant clip of them on my imaginary boyfriend's show.

I heard a few elements of Lana Del Rey in the Jonathan and Darlene Edwards clip.
Many nods to old Hollywood too in the video so I won't be barred just yet from this establishment for straying off topic.
