Host of TCM Underground, Millie de Chirico, announced that she was recently let go from TCM after 18.5 years due to "company restructuring." Does this mean they are doing away with the TCM Underground series?I've done a bit of research and I haven't been able to confirm one way or the other what the status of the series is.

Does this mean they are doing away with the TCM Underground series? TCM’s Monthly Highlights calendar for January still lists TCM Underground among its “Weekly Showcases.”
But it could be that they’re using up already-taped intros with the departing host before the feature ends. Or maybe they’re going to continue TCM Underground without a host.
I’ve never watched TCM Underground because I simply don’t like the kinds of movies it includes. But I know that others like it, and it features distinctive kinds of movies. So I think it’d be a shame if TCM cancels it, even though I wouldn’t personally miss it.

Underground doesn't have a host. They just kind of throw it out there every Friday night!

I'm just getting around to hearing that Millie is leaving TCM. That sucks. And she recently had that book come out which they are still advertising.
I guess that's it for their TCM Underground Segments on YouTube.
What the hell is going on there???

What the hell is going on there??? Yes, her book is prominently featured in the current book promo. Her dismissal is actually a disappointment piled on a disappointment; all along she's been such a natural for hosting duties and Underground is the kind of thing which could really benefit from a host, yet they've kept her in the background for years. Her recent Slumberground segments on their YouTube channel with a couple of fellow TCM staffers were fun and informative, though I agree with BingFan that a lot of the films weren't personally appealing, especially the blood-and-guts type. Even so, there was a lot of discussion about the film itself, the filmmaker and the different genres, all of which shouldn't have been tucked away on YouTube where most people wouldn't search it out. It should have been front and center in the Underground time slot, with Millie at the helm. She's proven that she can sustain lengthy segments a-la Eddie Muller, which I'm not sure any of the other TCM hosts could really do. This all makes me wonder once again whether or not the people making the decisions these days are even fans of TCM and actually watch the channel. It doesn't seem like it sometimes. In a related, foreboding note, Epix has just been rebranded as MGM Plus, so I'm wondering how long Warners will be able to resist slapping its name on TCM.

I wonder about the fate of Underground, as well. For a while, they were showing the in between films promo for Underground in which Millie talks about the series, it's followers and what she tried to include in the programming. That is completely gone now, perhaps because they discharged her, but also suspiciously absent is the bumper for Underground with the rock music and the body with a TV on it's head:

I agree with your full statement above. I rarely watched the film show during the Underground but I've seen every installment of Slumberground. I found them very entertaining and vastly informative.
I don't know if anyone else here noticed but on the TCM YouTube channel they pulled the TCM Remembers segment in early January and replaced it with an identical version but with one small difference at the end...

Sorry, but I have to give my standard reply: capitalism. On the bright side at least Musk didn't take over TCM.

The Underground style of programming has been part of the Turner DNA since the beginning and some of the best graphics were devoted to it.

I invited Musk on a sea voyage on The Ghost Ship with Richard Dix as captain. Anything to ensure such a deal never happens!

It doesn't seem like it sometimes. According to this report from Eric Kohn at Indiewire, posted Saturday, TCM's GM told him David Zaslav, WBD's CEO, is a fan. (I haven't figured out how to embed a link yet.)

I also read that same article--and that is somewhat comforting. And you would think that TCM doesn't exactly have a ton of overhead costs because they own the vast majority of the films they show.
So, what exactly are the expenses for TCM? Presumably, paying 5 hosts to do the job that one man, Robert Osborne, used to do, doesn't seem the most cost effective. At this point, I think Ben's job is secure, as he is now by far the most senior host, with about 20 years of experience. The others, not so sure.
