This is why "On the Waterfront" is such a good movie - it shows the gray in real life. This is a union fairytale story.

So Loggia bites the dust at the halfway mark. Of course his widow will turn to you know who for support and comfort:

He was eying her from the second he met her.

Vincent Sherman is a decent director.
But I think the film would have been better with someone like John Ford directing, where we get some complexity with the characterizations. And the theme is presented in a more poetic way.
These people are often screaming and acting like they are downtrodden, without really being human with any shred of dignity.

People - union or management - aren't all good or all bad.

It's 1957 and somebody is still using a horse and cart. Amazing.

I keep forgetting, who is the young woman with Cobb - his girlfriend, a cousin, who is she in the story?

Valerie French should have had a bigger career.
She did better in westerns at Columbia, in films with Glenn Ford, Randolph Scott & Guy Madison.

I keep forgetting, who is the young woman with Cobb - his girlfriend, a cousin, who is she in the story? Isn't she supposed to his girlfriend? She's played by Valerie French, whom I just posted about.

I liked the way the models joked about her being a designer now that she had hooked up with the boss.

I liked the way the models joked about her being a designer now that she had hooked up with the boss. That was one of the most honest, real sounding lines in the movie
