I do the same now and I also think of themes.
"A Summer Place" would be a great Donahue-Dee combo one as it's melodrama on crack and steroids at the same time. Yes, A SUMMER PLACE would be a good one. The month would also have to include a Molly Ringwald picture from the 80s, like SIXTEEN CANDLES. LOL
Going back to pro-union flicks, I find it interesting that Lloyd Bridges stars in THE WHISTLE AT EATON FALLS. He would be gray-listed shortly afterward. So in the early 50s, if you selected scripts that were a bit leftish in their politics, you had McCarthy and the witch hunters after you! ... Since HBO has been running it in heavy rotation, I watch Ringwald and Robert Downey Jr., a very talented actor in my opinion, in 1987's "The Pickup Artist," which I saw on cable just after it came out and remember thinking, meh, but I liked it this time around. The story is okay, Downey is very good, he and Ringwald have enjoyable chemistry and the on-location NYC scenes are fun time travel. I don't know how the group feels about moving into 1980s movies, but I almost think this would be a good alternative to the popular "Sixteen Candles."
I'm exhausted by the McCarthy cudgel because I think it's become a talisman for the left today who, just like today's right, needs to do some soul searching when it comes to supporting honest and open debate with opposing views, but it would be funny if this balanced movie, "Whistle Stop at Eaton Falls," caused Bridges' gray listing. I thought the movie was pretty balanced - good and bad was shown in both management and the union - but maybe the issue was that the end was a management-union kumbaya.
I almost want to watch it again now to see if I missed something.

My last teaser (I promise) for "The Garment Jungle" at 3pm ET / 1pm MT / 12pm PT today.
It's the fun and very tabloid-style - the music and narration are pure sensationalism - original trailer for the movie.
The ripping of her dress off at the start is so funny silly, but you can see what they were going for.

The blonde's mirthful disdain on her face when the dress is torn off is hilarious.

I'll bet it was those hoodlums. Subtlety is not this movie's style, nor is nuance or political depth. It's pro union all the way.

Lee J. Cobb was 45, playing father to Kerwin Mathews, who was 30.

I like seeing Lee J.Cobb get to show a softer side in some of these scenes, grief over his partner, joy at seeing his son. Lots of his parts have been stern and angry all the way through.

It's 1957 and the garment business is in for a multi-decade decline that will end with the business overseas with new owners. Best advice he gave his son was to do something - anything - else.

Walter's acting here is superb. He seems 100% innocent. Oh my.
