1. I Love Lucy 2. The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour 3. Have Gun Will Travel (even though it went into the early 60s) 4. What's My Line (but I really only watch the celebrity guest star portions)
I love The Donna Reed Show, but it was more 60s than 50s hence why it isn't here.

I didn't put any of these shows as either my favorite 50s or 60s TV shows because of that.

The Donna Reed show, like LEAVE IT TO BEAVER, BACHELOR FATHER and several other shows, is also one of those "hybrid" shows that started in the '50's and lasted until the early to mid '60's. But I think those too, could be included in a '50's TV show thread. Sepiatone

In my mind I like to put The Donna Reed Show in the 60s category (I guess because it was on for longer in the 60s, yet styles are very much 50s). It's definitely a confusing one for me. I should just put it in both and call it a day lolll!😂

Take Have Gun, Will Travel; I really enjoy this show because many episodes have a more modern take. Ok, not a hipster vibe but leaning in that direction. I see that with other shows that while they started in the 50s their sensibilities are more in the 60s (like the writers were smoking pot, ha ha). The sitcoms like Beaver, Reed, were clearly grounded into the 50s and stayed there.

I think the 60s most people mean when they talk of "the 60s" began in 1965, when the boomers reached adulthood and Vietnam started heating up. The entire culture changed in its aesthetic and its values.

That show used music (The Beatles), as one of the yardsticks to say the cultural change took place in 1964\65.

In March 65 alone you had Selma and the Marines landing in Da Nang. Whole new world.

Yeah, it does seem that "Cultural" decades do start near the middle of the actual decade. I wonder how Rock'n'Roll plays into this. As most say the mid '50's was when R'R was "officially" recognized as a commercially valid genre many then felt that was when the "true" '50's began, and major culture changes took place usually in the middle of each decade. Like music didn't really change from the '50's vibe until The Beatles began the "British Invasion" in about 1964, the middle of the decade. And toward the middle of the 1970's was when music did another major overhaul. and on and on.

I just went though all the postings in this thread and never did spot a mention of one of my favorite shows from the '50's...
YOU ASKED FOR IT.
