There's a little too much sacrificing going on all around.
Shirley has way too much presence of mind at her age.

Well now we know, even Stanwyck can't pull off a poodle hairdo.

Told your "unselfish plan." Yeah, that was too much.

Shirley has way too much presence of mind at her age. Perhaps, but not all kids are Beevis and Butthead.

And she’s not bright enough to see through her mother’s ruse.

And she’s not bright enough to see through her mother’s ruse. And wouldn't she actually like Ed, since Ed was part of her upbringing and she had no issues with him before? This doesn't make sense.

Thanks everyone - fun as always.
I'm going to have to watch it again to look for some nuances I missed or got wrong.

Ok, FF, you’ve got a point with the iron gate view of her own daughter’s wedding - and cops shewing the onlookers away like cats in an alley. A little tough to swallow.

Well I'm crying anyway. I love this thing, sappy as it is.
Sorry it probably wasn't a good pick for you guys.

Can't really feel sorry for Stella in the final scenes. She chose to be an outcast, and that's what she became. She could have had a better life with Stephen and her daughter but it was not a real priority for her. The daughter will have a better life without her.

Sorry it probably wasn't a good pick for you guys. Not at all. I enjoyed it; I just felt I missed a few key moments that had me confused a bit.
Very good choice.

Sorry it probably wasn't a good pick for you guys. Oh no, AD! After the big sacrifice scene I looked in on my own mom who is sleeping soundly in the next room and got a bit teary. I’ve had to take care of her after a hip fracture and you know how emotional sometimes coming back home can get. This pick was right on time! Thanks.

Thanks, ando. Sorry about your mother's hip fracture. You're a very good son to go home and take care of her.
I've always thought they should show this one on Mother's Day. Seeing how much Laurel loves her mother always gets to me. In my mind, Stella buys that tiny little house with a garden that Laurel described, some place close to where Laurel will live, and her grandchildren come to visit all the time.
