Stella's story covers several subjects, class struggles and hopelessly mismatched people trying to make a marriage work, but at its heart it's the story of a woman's love and sacrifice for her daughter. Stella is such an unusual character, laughable at times, but still a strong woman who cuts her own path and makes her own decisions with no support around her. I can't imagine anyone playing her as well as Barbara Stanwyck.
Another stand out performance is Barbara O'Neil, Stella's upper class rival and complete opposite in style, who surprises us by being just as kind and loving a person as Stella.
Olive Higgins Prouty also wrote "Now Voyager." I think she writes multidimensional women characters like no other.

Good choice...can't wait till Sunday!

LOL Barbara can't believe I still haven't found a copy of her film. Youtube has one with ads and I'm sure everyone would rather not go with that. I've tried to register with the OK channel that you and Topbilled use but can't seem to get there, it thinks my phone number is Russian.

Just looking at that clip reminds me of why I love Stanwyck so much, all her movements are so natural. I'll bet no director told her to do that, but 1930's women who set their hair in pincurls knew they had to keep fluffing out the curls lest they return to pincurl shape.
I know it's not for an hour yet but I'm already dressed for the show in my three feather boas, all my costume jewelry, and my special shoes with the jingle bells.
If it's one thing I know it's how to dress! I've always been known to have stacks of style.

Has anyone seen the 1925 version or the 1990 version?
