cineclassics,
How often are you planning to do the bracket challenges? Will this occur annually? Or several times a year? If so, then maybe you can retitle this thread "Classic Cinema Bracket Challenge Winter 2023" or something like that...if you plan to do challenges in the spring, summer and fall.
Incidentally, it might be kind of fun if future bracket challenges focused on actors, like having people vote on Humphrey Bogart versus Spencer Tracy. And I'd like to see a bracket challenge on classic pop songs and classic TV shows. These are just my suggestions...if you want to stick with only classic film, then that's fine too!

Maybe when you move them over, change the title and moved link to reflect the results? X (winner) vs Y I don't think it's necessary to mention the winner...because anyone who goes into the thread will see the survey result at the top of the thread.
Not necessary, that's true. If I click on the NEW icon in front of the thread title, it takes me to the last post and I have to make the HUGE effort to scroll to the top to see the survey 'cause it's not a fixed position element and scrolls off with new posts. 🤣

This bracket challenge will last several more weeks so after it concludes I'll probably take a good long break. It's fairly time consuming and I'm trying to stay on schedule while juggling work. I don't want to personally inundate the forum with bracket challenges all the time. But I'm certainly open to additional challenges down the road, whether it be actors, genres, etc.

What does any of this prove anyway? I can see mostly it proving forum members prefer certain movies over others, which really doesn't say anything meaningful about one movie's quality over another's.
In my mind (ambiguous as it is) The movies pitted against one another would(or might) make better sense if they were both of the same genre. But maybe that's just me.

Sepiatone I think it's just meant to be for fun. In a way this happens every weekend when new releases (from different genres and studios) hit the theater. It's always about which title is the most popular or beloved by today's audience.
What I am interested in seeing with regards to the bracket challenges is what happens when two very popular, well liked titles go against each other at the end of the challenge.

I agree, it's just fun, nothing more (and, again, much appreciation to cineclassics for all the hard work he puts into this so that the rest of us can have that fun).
I already felt the "stress" you are noting when "The Philadelphia Story" showed up against "The Apartment." It was kinda of a "which one of your children do you want to save" decision for me.

Sepiatone It's more of just a fun way to gauge this forum's opinion on certain films, but I'm also hopeful that we will have a lively discussion in the comments section on the merits of each film and why they prefer one over the other. We have had quite a bit of that in-depth discussion on various matchups, so I've been pleased with that.

I get that. Only a discussion of why some choose one film over another works better if the choice between the two are films of the same or similar genre.
Now the risk is when pitting two films of different genre's against each other will make several people not vote for one or the other due to them liking both films equally, which won't get a proper indication of how ALL forum members feel about the movies mentioned.

Okay folks, the first round (except for one matchup) is complete and I wanted to update the bracket for everyone. I will post the final first round matchup later today (Casablanca vs Roman Holiday). One matchup ended in a tie (The Apartment and Philadelphia Story). Those two films will go onto a 3 way matchup in the 2nd round against It's A Wonderful Life. Let me know if you have any questions and thank you for participating!

Here is a quick update of what the bracket looks like. We have only two more matchups left in the second round before the "elite 8" begins. Thank you all who have thus far participated.

Yes great fun. I can't wait for new brackets to be posted. And imagine my shock when I found myself thinking like The Great Mr. Roll-E-Eyes, bemoaning the point of it all when two films I love came up against each other. I am afraid to do my math. Probably not even cracking 50%. Between this and my extreme interest in the monthly draw I am starting to think I have been suppressing some sort of gambling problem. A post of a round table in the trivia section today reminded me I had this game as a kid. Uh oh.
