Hello Everyone, I have created a 32 movie bracket challenge featuring many of the most beloved and acclaimed classics from the Golden Era. They will be facing off in a single elimination tournament format. Below is the official bracket where you can view the entirety of the first round matchups. I will create a post for each matchup and the the film that receives the most votes will advance to the next round. I'll likely limit posting to just 2-3 matchups a week for you all to vote on because I don't want the Classic Cinema thread to be bombarded with polls. I have asked TopBilled to remove each matchup/poll after it has concluded so as to not clutter the thread. A few things regarding how I chose the following 32 films: 1) I chose sound era films from the 1930s-1960s 2) I decided on Hollywood productions, which leaves many great foreign films out. 3) I tried to be as subjective as possible in choosing films that are highly acclaimed either for their genre and/or overall. I believe you can click on the below bracket to enlarge it, because it shows up mighty small on my end, so hopefully everyone can view the bracket. Again, I will be posting the first few matchups on the left bracket soon and voting will be open for about a week to ensure folks have an opportunity to vote if they so choose. When the first round ends, I will update the bracket so everyone is aware of the films that have advanced and the next round's matchups. Hope this is fun for all and I encourage discussion in the comments section of the film matchups and your overall preferences. P.S. Please excuse any grammatical errors in the bracket below, the BracketHQ program I used did this once I saved it to a PNG file and I'm unsure why.

Just wanted to let everyone know that after speaking with cineclassics yesterday, I decided to create a separate section to archive the Bracket Challenges. So after each round plays out on this forum, those threads will eventually be moved over to a new area where people can find them all later!

Oh those choices are gonna be tough. Think there's actually 1 that I haven't seen (by choice) and 1 that I have captured & seen, but don't remember. 😲

Bumping this thread because of the 3 matchups thus far open for a vote, 2 are currently tied. The polls for those 3 matchups close at midnight tonight.
I don't know what the tiebreaker rule/decision should be. I am open to suggestions!

North by Northwest won over Bringing Up Baby, 11-10 Citizen Kane won over To Be or Not to Be, 10-8 It's A Wonderful Life won over White Heat, 11-6.
When we finish this half of the bracket, I will re-upload the bracket to reflect the second round matchups.

Cineclassics,
Just a quick note to say thank you for all the hard work you've put into this "challenge."
I've enjoyed it more than I thought I would and, based on all the posts and back and forth, I'd say many others have too.

You're welcome and thank you for the compliment. I greatly appreciate everyone who not only is participating by voting but also engaging in a conversation regarding the merits of the films. With the way I've chosen to submit the matchups, the bracket challenge should continue for several more weeks, so more fun matchups and discussions lie ahead!

Maybe when you move them over, change the title and moved link to reflect the results? X (winner) vs Y

Maybe when you move them over, change the title and moved link to reflect the results? X (winner) vs Y I don't think it's necessary to mention the winner...because anyone who goes into the thread will see the survey result at the top of the thread.
Plus cineclassics is mentioning the winners in this thread, which after the final challenge, will also be moved into the archived section.
