There's been a couple or so TZ reboots that also fell short. Forest Whitaker hosted and narrated one of them. Sepiatone Timing is everything in this subject. The original TZ had the Space Race, Civil Rights, Presidential Assassination, Cold War, Technological advancement with computers, the so called 50's Suburban Life, etc... and so many themes all happening at the same time. And they were so controversial, Rod Serling had to disguise them with aliens and robots.
All the reboots went after the scary movie themes. And they get old very fast on TV. None have the guts to go after real controversial issue of the day.
Great point, gerald424.

That's an astute observation. What modern-day issues do you see today's TV writers avoiding?

But the original tackled topics that can still be addressed today. Like conformity, social mores and human frailties. And of course the old standby paranormal activity. And some of my favorite TZs were stories that presented various concepts of the "hereafter".

Sepiatone For example: Religion: ( Fundamentalist Christian, Islamophobia, controversies with the Catholic church), Transsexualism, Transhumanism, The Conservative/Liberal split here in America, Immigration, Drugs, Satellites, Modules on Mars and the moon, The space station, etc...
I liked TZ more for the social commentary than the monsters or whatever. Nowadays, everyone is afraid to offend anyone. So we end up with very sanitized entertainment.

Sanitized says it best. Can't call it "homogenized" because some idiots would misunderstand and think that means it's filled with gay content.(see how well a "rolleyes" emoticon would work here?). Sepiatone

Fawlty Towers with John Cleese and his daughter Camilla are reviving the classic comedy. "The revival is being developed by Castle Rock Entertainment and will center on how Basil "navigates the modern world" as he and his newfound daughter "tempt fate and team up to run a boutique hotel," according to a news release. That FATAL ATTRACTION isn't really a "reboot" of an older TV show that ran it's course some years earlier. There was a TV show called "Fatal attraction"(2013-present) that was more of a documentary about dysfunctional and abusive relationships and wasn't based on the Close-Douglas movie. There is/was also a show on the Animal Planet channel called "Fatal Attractions" that focused on humans with unconventional pets that turned out to be dangerous and sometimes fatal.

So to get back to the original topic, there was an article yesterday that said Bebe Neuwirth has already filmed a guest spot on the upcoming Frasier reboot. She is reprising her role as Dr. Lilith Sternin, Frasier's ex-wife and mother of their son Frederick/Freddy.
Supposedly in this new episode, she and Frasier have an epic showdown over their son, whom I am guessing chooses to live with dear old dad after having been with his mother for years.
Should be interesting to see Grammer and Neuwirth go at it again.
