Loy's gal pal is played by Ilka Chase. She was a novelist in addition to actress.
She's in Now Voyager, so that automatically makes her one of my favorite actresses.

Wikipedia:
"Cold enough to freeze the balls off (or on) a brass monkey" is a colloquial expression used by some English speakers to describe extremely cold weather.
The reference to the testes (as the term balls is commonly understood to mean) of the brass monkey appears to be a 20th-century variant on the expression, prefigured by a range of references to other body parts, especially the nose and tail. Thank you - saved me a google.

The role of Daisy Sage almost went to Irene Dunne. I love these almosts....
Not a hard no for me upon reflection but my mind did do a little wobble when you posted it.
And also...
Katharine Hepburn tested for the role that eventually went to Myrna Loy.

She tells him what to do then says "I've nothing to do with it." Oh boy, she's a piece of work. Yes, she should have waited a few days before trying to take over his life and showing her manipulative, mean side.

Red's about to get fired... If Red didn't have a job lined up, I don't think Howard would have done it.

I agree, but I think we are at a year or at least many months into the marriage as Daisy is now showing, which means she's back from Mexico with enough canvases to show.

I am loving the buffet of accents we have on the table. So enjoyable. Not distracting at all.

If I remember correctly from the play, it's six months later.

Breaking up with Red is nearly as painful as breaking up with Daisy.
