Lots of TBA slots for Brando. Hopefully, along with all the usual Brando films they play, TCM will pull THE YOUNG LIONS (1958) out of retirement. Good film with Montgomery Clift and of course Dean Martin. Hope Lange, Barbara Rush and May Britt do a fine job as their female counterparts too!

Glad the oversight has finally been corrected. He has had several Summer Under the Stars tributes.

Thanks for providing the list. It will be great to see Robert's introductions. I can provide one small correction to TCM's press release - Sally Field and Robert first introduced The Wind (1928) as part of The Essentials on 4/25/15, not 4/25/08.

There are still two open slots, on the 10th and 24th. I'm guessing that the slot on the 10th might be filled by The Godfather (1972). No tribute to Marlon Brando would be complete without it. If so, it would be only the 2nd time it has been shown on TCM. The 24th might be used for Superman (1978), which I think would be another popular choice.

This completes the list of films included for the Star of the Month theme.

I was hoping one of the open slots would be MORITURI. It's been too long since I saw this film with a really bad title that turns people away-in fact it might rate a neglected film designation. I can't give a review, I don't remember it well enough. Brando is a German living in Asia-he does not want to fight in WWII. Trevor Howard has a great minor role as a British official (has he ever been bad in a film?) coercing Brando to do a sabotage job on a German supply ship. Janet Margolin, Jewish, ends up on the same supply ship. If not the movie, at least one scene is a must see for Brando fans. He's aware that the Gestapo is brutal, but his face when Margolin tells him what they did to her, That's great acting-THE HORROR to borrow from APOCALYPSE NOW-without a word he learns how evil the Gestapo is and is more motivated to complete his mission. Give MORITURI a look.

Today is the day of Robert Osborne intros. How nice to see him on TCM again.
I saw his intro for North by Northwest this morning. Unfortunately, he looked and sounded rather ill and sat for the entire intro. I'm hoping that they'll show earlier (younger and healthier) Osborne intros today.
I know they'll show his first intro for GWTW tonight.

I missed NORTH BY NORTHWEST this morning but have been enjoying Robert Osborne's introductions most of the day. He had a love for films that was infectious! I remember when he was alive, it seemed that every movie he introduced was one I had to watch. I miss him like many others do I'm sure. However, I do enjoy Ben and the other keepers of the flame and hope that the flame will continue burning!!!
HAPPY 30TH ANNIVERSARY TCM!!!

In watching the intros this time, it really struck me that Robert truly loved the films and was excited to share his knowledge to help people enjoy what was coming up. That personal connection with the viewer, combined with the depth of his knowledge of the films and the people who made them, was a unique combination. Late Saturday TCM showed Wild Bill Hickok Rides (1942), and in the intro Robert said that he hadn't seen it before, but he picked it because he was surprised to find a western with Constance Bennett, and he wanted to watch it with us! There was another quote that Robert loved it when people were going to get to see a film for the first time that he knew was a special treat. What an amazing host, he really made the channel into something special.

Totally enjoyed TCM'S Marlon Brando films this evening - GUYS AND DOLLS 1955 and SAYONARA 1957. These are two movies TCM doesn't show often and they show the range of Brando's talent. GUYS AND DOLLS is the only musical he ever played in and I know Ben talked about how Frank Sinatra was upset about Brando getting the part, but I think he did OK. I liked him opposite Jean Simmons, who also was not known as a singer. I do know that Frank Sinatra later recorded many of the songs from GUYS AND DOLLS and used many of them in his Vegas shows when he performed with Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. As a matter of fact, Guys and Dolls became a very popular song that Frank and Dean sang together. SAYONARA is also not played often. Love the performance by Red Button! It's a beautiful picture to watch and I learned something new watching this time - the music was written by Irving Berlin - one of my favorites!❤

So a reminder that tonight at 12:15 a.m. central time TCM will be showing the war film THE YOUNG LIONS 1958 as part of Brando's evening of war films. Thought I would give a reminder on this scheduling thread even though I've talked about it on my Dean Martin thread. Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift and Dean Martin play the three main characters/soldiers. Some of the changes that these 3 soldiers go through are difficult gritty subjects to watch but that lends itself to this story. Also starring Barbara Rush, May Britt and Hope Lange as the women in their lives - with Maximilian Schell and Dora Doll also. I hope you tune in and enjoy THE YOUNG LIONS!!!

Covering all appropriate threads for this film, Christine? It is a great one, book was good also. Martin is great in this one, seems like he is playing himself, but quickly you realize he isn't-his character is not like Martin. This was a role Martin was allowed to show a range of his acting talent. Cliff kind of over did it-or maybe because I saw FROM HERE TO ETERNITY first and his characters in both are similar-in this film Cliff seemed to "coast"; That is he didn't give the roles a different personality.
Interesting that Brando has no scenes with Martin or Cliff. Wonder if he even saw them while filming.
I'm afraid I'll fall asleep before the end of THE YOUNG LIONS so I'm recording it.
I'm with you, Christine, this is one of Martin's great performances in a great film.
