"But he's dying."
"Let him."
Preachin' to the choir, Sister.

If you are Strickland, you don't thank the man who took you into his home and saved your life when you were deathly ill.
No.
You just steal the guy's wife.

The move gives new meaning to the words immoral and ingratitude.

Yes I think we've gone a bridge too far from the cad notion.

Poor Dirk.
Actor Steve Geray gets to lunge at Sanders. I am sure that was a fun day on the set.

When Dirk gives them his apartment, I honestly lost respect for him. Kindness is one thing - and a great thing - but a person also needs to have some self-respect and dignity.

I hope he is not a point of fact in the real Gaugin's life.

And why in the world would Blanche make that choice? The way her dialogue was written and performed, you would have thought she was (literally) hypnotized by him.

Around my house, we have a little thing we say at train wreck films like this:
"Is this a comedy?"

And why in the world would Blanche make that choice? I guess she was attracted to Strickland's boldness in contrast to her husband's self-effacement. That, of course, might apply to the physical as well.

I know I stole your wife, Dirk.
I know I painted her in the nude.
I know I am a great painter.
Now why are you still standing there...use the door, dear man...and go.

Is Dirk supposed to be a version of Van Gogh?
