Interesting that she was only Star of the Month one previous time. I thought for sure it would have been more often, as she has so many MGM titles in the TCM library.
Glad she's being honored again.

Personal story...I was at the Century City mall one evening in the mid-90s. I was in college at the time, and I went over there shopping with a roommate. We went into the bookstore and we were told that Debbie and daughter Carrie would be there in two hours for a book signing. We had to reserve a spot if we were interested, since the store wasn't very spacious.
I hesitated and decided against it, since we'd already been at the mall for several hours, we were tired and needed to get back to our studies. A short while later as we were leaving, we stopped at the cafe court for some ice cream and we heard people talk about the book signing...how they were looking forward to getting an autographed copy of some new book one or both of them had written.
I have sort of regretted not sticking around to meet Debbie Reynolds in person. Oh well, life goes on...LOL

No Dean Martin films listed yet for March - yes, that's the first thing I check! There are a couple of TBA under Author Lillian Hellman on March 19th. Hopefully Dean's 1963 film TOYS IN THE ATTIC WILL BE ONE. TCM has not played that for a few years and I think it is an under appreciated drama. I believe it was also one of Gene Tierney's last movies she made.

"Toys in the Attic" doesn't get the attention it deserves in the very busy late '50s/early '60s "dysfunction southern family melodrama" genre.

You have earned full credit - TCM has scheduled Toys in the Attic (1963) late on Tuesday March 19 at 2 AM ET as part of the Lillian Hellman theme. Congratulations!

I am OVER THE MOON about this!!! I'll be up late watching - even though I own every one of Dean Martin's movies on DVD. I still like to watch them when their aired! So glad TCM is showing some films that haven't played for a handful of years!

The one which generally gets left out of blocks of Debbie Reynolds programming is The Rat Race (1960), featuring Debbie in a strictly dramatic role as disillusioned woman aspiring to a career (or even a job) somewhere in the entertainment field. New-to-NYC saxophonist Tony Curtis takes the small apartment she's just been evicted from and they strike an agreement to share space while they both try to get on their feet again. There are good supporting performances by Jack Oakie, Kay Medford and Don Rickles. It was released by Paramount so that may account for some of the reason TCM never seems to get to it. Too bad because we rarely got to see this side of Debbie. There's still a TBA on the schedule, so maybe?

I don't think I've ever seen THE RAT RACE. It could be one of those movies that I think I haven't seen and then as I'm watching it I realize I have. I always hope TCM will show films they haven't or it's been a long time since it's aired. I'd like to watch this one!

Does anyone know why Noir Alley, according to the TCM website, isn't returning until 3/16 and not the first Saturday in March? Thank you.

31 DAYS OF OSCAR ends the 9th or 10th of March. The last Noir Alley Eddie presented before 31 DAYS stated he'd be back mid March.

I enjoyed Debbie Reynolds week! Usually, I don't care for the weeklong SOTM format, but Debbie is so darn watchable, and I hadn't seen some of the films he made in the 1960s.
THE RAT RACE was one film I had never seen before, and I was surprised that it held my attention from start to finish. I thought she was very good in the film, and her spunk was dialed down to near zero.

I'd had never seen it before either and recorded it. I started it last night and really enjoyed the first third that I was able to stay awake for (it was late, that's not a reflection on the movie). I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest of it.
