I enjoyed Debbie Reynolds week! Usually, I don't care for the weeklong SOTM format, but Debbie is so darn watchable, and I hadn't seen some of the films he made in the 1960s.
THE RAT RACE was one film I had never seen before, and I was surprised that it held my attention from start to finish. I thought she was very good in the film, and her spunk was dialed down to near zero.
I'd had never seen it before either and recorded it. I started it last night and really enjoyed the first third that I was able to stay awake for (it was late, that's not a reflection on the movie). I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest of it. The Rat Race is a very good film. Of course, I love the jazz vibe and there are a few good musical and "what it's like trying to make it as a musician" scenes. All the stars often at their best in comedies (especially Rickles), do well in this drama. Good to see TCM feature this.

Rickles, as you noted, was outstanding playing a pure dramatic part. I'm surprised how "obscure" this movie is.
