So Nip...what's your favorite John Wayne flick? I'll play. My favorite is " The Quiet Man". I think he was at his best in "The Searchers".

Can I play too? Not a huge Duke fan, but my favorite by far is also The Quiet Man (1952).

So Nip...what's your favorite John Wayne flick? my all-time favorite Duke movie is The Horse Soldiers. I like how Duke as a tough as nails union colonel wins the heart of the pretty blonde southern belle played so delightfully by Constance Towers. Attachments:

This is one of those subjects in which I can't pick a favorite. There's many I like and few I don't. Also many I attach a lot of sentimental value to having seen so many over the years starting at a young age. So, there's STAGECOACH, RED RIVER, RIO BRAVO, THE QUIET MAN, BACK TO BATAAN, FLYING TIGERS, SANDS OF IWO JIMA, BIG JIM McLAIN, THE COMANCHEROS, THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE, FORT APACHE, SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON, DONOVAN'S REEF... Just a handful of Duke flicks I've seen over the years that make it really hard to pick a favorite from. Sepiatone

My favorites are The Searchers (he's essentially the antagonist in this film, anti-hero at best, and it is a very different role than what The Duke was accustomed to playing); The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The Quiet Man, and Rio Bravo. I need to see more non-western film roles of John Wayne--does anyone have any recommendations?

I like “The Sons of Katie Elder”. You can’t beat this cast: Dean Martin, George Kennedy, James Gregory, Earl Holliman and a young Dennis Hopper. The saloon scene with the eyeball lottery is worth the price of admission.

THE SEA CHASE('55) LADY FOR A NIGHT('42), LONG VOYAGE HOME(40), THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY('54), BLOOD ALLEY('55), IN HARM'S WAY('65), And a couple more I posted and a few more war pictures, sure. Non-Western Wayne isn't hard to find. Happy searching and viewing. Sepiatone

I'll first say that I don't particularly care for the late 60's, early 70's movies of his. Although I have come to like "The Shootist" with Lauren Bacall.
Up until that point there are probably just a couple I don't really watch when they're on. Everybody's mentioned all the standouts so far. "The Quiet Man," "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon," "Rio Grande," "Fort Apache," and "Stagecoach."
But I'll put in a plug for one of my wife's favorites (and one of mine, too) -- "Trouble Along the Way" with Donna Reed and Charles Coburn. A real different side of Duke than we often see. If you don't know this one, please check it out. It's worth a look.

It certainly is. WITHOUT RESERVATIONS('46) is another non-western Wayne film. Co-starring Claudette Colbert and Don DeFore.

BTW The INSPIRATION channel is featuring John Wayne movies on certain nights and times through December. Cutely, they're calling the feature "Duke The Halls." Sepiatone
