I was surprised when I heard Cher hired 4 men to abduct her grown son. Since I thought she was liberal. Is that how liberals think or was she being a mother trying to protect her son.?

I voted "get a medal." From what I have read (and I may not know the full story) her son has been seriously addicted to drugs for many years. He says he started doing hard drugs at age eleven so his brain is probably hopelessly wired to never be really contented without drugs.
When this "kidnapping" happened, he had been holed up in a hotel room doing nothing but drugs for over a month, so she essentially forced him into rehab. There was a time when a family doctor would have ordered the "men in white coats," to remove him to some sort of psychiatric hospital for his own safety, but those days are past.
I know many people will say no one gets sober unless they themselves want to, but waiting for that to happen can be fatal. I expect many other parents wish they had had the money and gumption to do what Cher did before it was too late.

Why did you have to go out of your way to mention her being a liberal. Why not just focus on her being a mother and a woman who takes charge.
You went out of your way to introduce politics into a discussion where it was not necessary.

What does "Liberal" even mean anymore?
Not what it once did. Not sure what it is now.

You went out of your way to introduce politics into a discussion where it was not necessary. Well politics does have something to do with this story especially Cher lives in CA. CA just passed a law that allows "loved ones" to go to a judge and force rehabilitation on their loved one (e.g., child, parent, sibling). What is interesting and highly political is the push-back against liberal governor Newsom is coming from liberal activist groups like the ACLU and other liberal state officials. Cher is one of a handful of liberals that support the law. Note that Reagan passed a similar law when he was governor of CA, but this was overturned as CA got more liberal. Now the most liberal governor in CA history brings it back. PS: the few remaining conservatives pols in CA disagree with the law claiming it violates civil liberties. I.e. a major flip flop by both sides on this complex issue.

Maybe the poll should have a 6th choice - let the kidnapped person decide.

I feel badly for the families (concerned relatives) that are caught in the middle.

It is a logical assumption that most of the family members truly care about the welfare of their loved one. Of course, there are exceptions (Brittney Spears and her dad?). Thus a very complex and difficult civil rights issue for a family to deal with, as well as society as a whole.
