If the fictional players' checks seemed to be signed by real-life Tex Schramm, and big-handed Nick Nolte's lead character running pass patterns amongst silver and black craziness suggested Oakland Raider Fred Biletnikoff, consider that the auteur of NORTH DALLAS FORTY, Peter Gent, once had played for the Dallas Cowboys, and Nolte is said to have received coaching from Biletnikoff himself.
