The Spider Woman (1943, Roy William Neill)Sherlock Holmes investigates a series of so-called "pajama suicides". He knows the female villain behind them is as cunning as Moriarty and as venomous as a spider. Basil Rathbone is my favorite Holmes. But I haven't seen this one, reportedly one of the best in the Rathbone-Bruce/Holmes-Watson series (usually a fun team in any iteration). Fine copy on the Tube.

Police Chase in San Gabriel Valley, California A break from movies to watch this real-life cop chase scenario which happened a couple of months ago. Nuts.

Both seasons of the remastered, short lived original series (1963-65) are up on The Tube. Have a great weekend!

Morituri (1965, Bernhard Wicki)A German war pacifist is blackmailed to pose as an SS officer and to disable the scuttling explosives on freighter carrying rubber cargo to be captured by the Allies. Good WWII espionage drama with A List talent (though a rather midling script). The cinematography is the real star. Fine YT copy above. Found a working copy. Good to see again.

I like MORITURI. I agree the cinematography is fabulous. Janet Margolin has the best role and plays it well. I agree the script is not quite up to the stars employed. Besides the A list stars, there's a great supporting cast. Have you even seen Wally Cox given a chance to do such drama?
I think the title dooms the film to obscurity. Hard to decide to plunk down your bucks at a theater if the title isn't "plain speak."

Have you even seen Wally Cox given a chance to do such drama? No; in fact, I’ve never seen Wally Cox in anything else until today. This show was apparently his claim to fame (a bit before my time

HELL DRIVERS is a great flick. Sort of a British version of THE WAGES OF FEAR.

Absolutely. Couldn’t finish it last night - too high octane (that “test run” sequence alone was nuts!) - but I’ll definitely get back to it!

YouTube finally dropped a decent version of my favorite Wells film - Touch of Evil (1958) A decent version with regards to the quality, or are you talking about the editing?

Touch of Evil (1958) A decent version with regards to the quality, or are you talking about the editing? Well, there’s not much you can do with the already butchered vision of Welles’ original cut, which apparently is lost forever. No, I was referring to its streaming resolution, of which the official YT streamers are far superior to most user uploads.

Faust (1926, F.W.Murnau) Fine YouTube version of the Murnau classic with the original aspect ratio and orchestral score in tact. Halloween fave. Here’s the score’s composer, Tim Brock, on the importance of the art form -

Not a movie but I just watched this video from TCM's YT channel. Actor Michael Sheen talks about one of his favorite movies, "A Matter of Life and Death." I don't know if he's ever been a guest programmer but based on this, he'd be great. He clearly loves the movie and it's the kind of enthusiastic detailed description that makes me want to see the movie again. TCM showing it on Nov. 30 as part of the month long spotlight on Powell and Pressburger films. I'm also working my way through the recent Scorsese documentary about the filmmakers, also showing on TCM. www.tcm.com/articles/Programming%20Article/021941/tcm-spotlight-powell-and-pressburger
