I thought this might be a good place to post links to films that are currently available for streaming on YouTube.

Great Idea. I don't have YouTube so I hope someone will do the same for Netflix, Prime, HBO Max and Paramount +.

Great Idea. I don't have YouTube so I hope someone will do the same for Netflix, Prime, HBO Max and Paramount +. If you have internet access you have YouTube and there's lots to see there for free!
In fact, you may get so busy there it's possible we may never hear from you again!
Please click on any of the above links to see what I'm speaking of.

The Public Domain classics fans have known since the days of VHS, so they'll probably be available EVERYWHERE on third-party streaming: Amazon Prime, TubiTV, and most of the other no-name services.
Once in a while, some underground poster might unearth a lost missing movie or VHS that's never come out on disk, but that's a more serendipitous search if you know what you're looking for.

My Cousin Rachel (1952, Henry Koster) Exceptional melodrama adaptation featuring Olivia de Havilland as cousin Rachel and Richard Burton as the seething youth, Philip, who finds himself in love with a woman he was prepared to hate. Good copy. recommended.

Mrs. Warren's Profession (1972, Herbert Wise) A very proper young woman is horrified to discover not only that her mother once worked as a prostitute in order to support her, but that she later became a whorehouse madam rather than give up the business. Excellent G.B. Shaw film adaptation. Don't be put off by the period sets and garb - the story is as resonant today as it was when it was first produced on the stage in 1902. When the play came to New York local police attempted to shut it down for violating a decency law (they failed). Great performances all around in this one. And, as always with Shaw, the arguments each character makes for their own self-justification are utterly convincing. Highly recommended. Free on the Tube.

The Age of Innocence (1993, Martin Scorsese) A tale of nineteenth-century New York high society in which a young lawyer falls in love with a woman separated from her husband, while he is engaged to the woman's cousin.
Exited to see this free official streamer on the Tube. It's one of my favorites from Scorsese, who apparently got flack from critics who felt the Mean Streets director was out of his element with this Edith Wharton material. Time has proven them utterly wrong.

Moonstruck (1987, Norman Jewison) Loretta Castorini, a bookkeeper from Brooklyn, New York, finds herself in a difficult situation when she falls for the brother of the man she has agreed to marry.I didn't realize how many don't care for this movie. How miserable can you be? Classic comedy form a crack ensemble. Watch it every couple of years. Didn't know The Criterion Collection picked it up. Deserving aquisition. Free on the Tube.

It's one of my favorites from Scorsese, who apparently got flack from critics who felt the Mean Streets director was out of his element with this Edith Wharton material. Time has proven them utterly wrong. One of my favorite films, a great depiction of a certain class and social scene in New York in the 1870s, and one of the great literary adaptations. I've met three of the actors in the movie: Sian Phillips, whom I met twice, once when I worked with her friend Tony Harvey; another time at a birthday party for Miriam Margolyes, whom I worked with a couple of times and who can be outrageous! I've also worked with Robert Sean Leonard on a few occasions. One of my favorite scenes: Newland Archer and Mrs. Archer (Daniel-Day Lewis and Sian Phillips) visit the van der Luydens (Michael Gough and Alexis Smith). It was Alexis Smith's final movie.

Morituri (1965, Bernhard Wicki)A German war pacifist is blackmailed to pose as an SS officer and to disable the scuttling explosives on freighter carrying rubber cargo to be captured by the Allies. Good WWII espionage drama with A List talent (though a rather midling script). The cinematography is the real star. Fine YT copy above.

Steel Magnolias (1989, Herbert Ross) A young beautician, newly arrived in a small Louisiana town, finds work at the local salon, where a small group of women share a close bond of friendship, and welcome her into the fold. Fun holiday time (I forgot that Christmas scene) classic. Great lines. Free on the Tube in January.

This Happy Breed (1944, David Lean)Just after World War I, the Gibbons family moves to a nice house in the suburbs. They live an ordinary life throughout the years, but everything changes when World War II breaks out. Great selection from the David Lean Directs Noel Coward Criterion box set. Fine form on YouTube.

The Threepenny Opera (1931, G.W. Pabst) In London at the turn of the century, the bandit Mack the Knife marries Polly without the knowledge of her father, Peachum, the 'king of the beggars'. Another classic I'm watching for the first time tonight. Of course, I've seen the play and am familiar with the Weill/Brecht collaborations but not director, Pabst's, adaptation. Nice background video above (included with the supplements on Criterion edition).
The film:
