Welcome to all the new members. It's a fun and informative forum that I think you'll enjoy being a part of.
Kudos, again, to Topbilled for creating and running this nice corner of the classic film, TV and radio part of the internet.

It can get kind of eerie too. This morning when I logged on I was the only one here. Before, even if there were no members, there were at least a few guests. But it's probably better overall if people have to step up and be counted, even if they don't feel like contributing at the moment. And while I'm at it, I should echo Fading Fast and say I really like the community here and I like how user-friendly the site is. For something that had to be thrown together from scratch, it worked out really well.

Guess I missed the Guest policy change. Back on the TCM Forum, even though I had joined way, way back when, I lurked everyday without logging in and posted maybe an average of 3 or 4 times per year. So if non-member visitors can still view here, maybe you're not as alone as you think. 😁

I guess there's no way of knowing, but if it's like anything else, it is probably a multiple of those who actually join.

Many members from the old TCM board that are now at SSO, did come here as guest to just read comments. A few claims they had to since people were talking about them behind their backs (so to speak). Yea, they were paranoid. People do all sorts of odd things.

At the bottom of the home page there's a readout of who's currently online broken down by staff, members and guests and also a readout of who's been online during the last 24 hours, also by category. It currently states that there are no guests here now and that there have been no guests for the last 24 hours. So I guess there's no more browsing. I've browsed myself before without logging in if I only had a few minutes and just wanted to see what was going on without responding to anything. So I'm assuming the view count recorded for each thread will dip now if it's only members viewing and not unregistered browsers because, usually, there were more guests here than members at any given time. But, as I said, that could have been at least partly members who just hadn't bothered to log in.

If nonmembers or not-signed-in guests can't view the forum, then how will the forum get new members? I'm sure I'm missing something, but I used to assume that somebody with an interest in old movies/TV/radio would follow a search to the site, browse for a time and, then, if they liked it, join. If there is no longer any browsing without some sort of sign in, how does the forum ever get new members? I'm sure I'm confused on what's gong on.

That is why I recommended that guest be able to browse but not be able to post.
