This is just my opinion, but posting a link to msn without writing anything leaves me cold. I most likely am missing interesting points that marysara1 presents, but I just don't open those links.

Mary,
If you're reading this...you may want to provide some introductory comments so people know what you are linking to, for them to vote on. Just a suggestion!

Sometimes I don't mind if the filmmakers spoil the ending right up front...because I am still interested in seeing how Charles Foster Kane's life plays out, or how Norma Desmond wrecks a handsome guy's life.
I also think that sometimes the writers are forced to give the ending away, for commercial reasons. Audiences are conditioned to expect happy endings. So if they are told the character won't get a happily ever after, like Ali MacGraw's character in LOVE STORY, there is time to get ready to say goodbye and accept it won't be a happy ending for her. If the audience didn't know she will really die, and they keep expecting a last-minute happy ending, they might turn against the movie and give it bad word of mouth which affects its profitability at the box office.

A non-linear narrative works fine if done effectively. In 1966, French director Jean-Luc Godard once famously remarked, "A story should have a beginning, a middle, and an end, but not necessarily in that order." I could not agree more.
