One Trick Pony Paul Simon (1980, Warner Bros) Spotify
Rewatched this seldom mentioned film which sports a fine soundtrack. Subdued album full of thoughtful lyric writing delivered by Simon’s tight band.

May I please interrupt this fabulous Movie Soundtrack Thread for a quick query - please & thank you.
INFORMATION, PLEASE! I see I am not alone in wanting to know more about this recording from Between Two Women (1986) that plays over the closing credits. While trying to find soundtrack details I came across this other lost soul who can’t identify it. I know that I KNOW the voice but cannot place it. Can someone identify the singer and the song?

This isn't exactly a soundtrack recording but I've always loved those impossibly overblown Command Stereo "tributes" to movie themes. The label's claim to fame was its advanced recording technology and its show-offy manipulation of stereo, yet they used it to produce some of the schlockiest music ever. "Born Free" is one of my favorites; it builds to an ear-splitting crescendo which would have Elsa the lion heading for the hills.
Ferrante & Teicher specialized in movie themes too and also got some grief for overkill, but their recordings were comparatively huge successes. There's something mind-numbingly soothing about them. "The Theme from Exodus" was probably their biggest hit.

I gave this soundtrack from the 1962 Robert Wise film a final listen before it goes into the flea market pile. The movie itself is fairly static in the way that an adaptation of a stage play (by William Gibson) often can be and Andre Previn's score kind of solidifies the sluggish mood. It's alternately noir-y, hipster-ish and lushly romantic, and overall somewhat derivative, but I think it has to be given credit for distilling the sounds of the era. "Listenable" is still a good thing, right?

Unknown Opera Song from Between Two Women (1986) Got me stumped, gg. Beautiful singing (I thought of Barbara Hendricks as the timbre of her voice matches and she was recording in the 80s but it's just a guess). Good luck. I'll keep my ears open.

Unknown Opera Song from Between Two Women (1986) Sounds like incidental music to me. A little Star Treky really. Melismatic vocal but not opera. My bet is it's original music for the movie. But I don't know.

And besides Previn, how can I resist: Jerry was a square from Nebraska. Gittel was an off-beatnik from Greenwich Village
Please continue to share your flea market piles. Do you have a goal in mind of how much vinyl you will keep?

I sold all my primo rock stuff a few years back. I guess the plan is to find homes for all of it before I die and it goes into a dumpster. I still have a couple of soundtracks, including one of my favorites by The Lovin' Spoonful:
And this beautiful ballad:

I wish had an an LP of this Dave Grusin gem but I make do with my fake digital copy. Truth is I would most likely watch the movie rather than grab the LP anyway.

One I've brought out a lot is this compilation of the soundtrack recordings Glenn Miller did for Twentieth Century-Fox for his several films there. I bought it in high school; my mother was a big Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman fan so the music was always in the house. Sound recording for film was equally advanced as and in some ways superior to then contemporary recording technology, so these recordings have an especially full-bodied sound. All I've been able to find on YouTube to share are from the individual soundtracks.
