The fact that everyone quoted seems to be massaging Zaslav's ego by crediting him with the turnaround when he was the one who brought everything to the brink seems to be the classic way you deal with a loose cannon. And the Warner execs taking credit for vastly improving content during the last year...Huh? Tell that to the creatives who got the axe. I guess they're thinking of the entire month of programming devoted to Warner's films? OK, I've got the negativity out and now I can breathe a huge sigh of relief that TCM now has at least a fighting chance.

I assume otherwise. That the Board had a big hand in them. Warner Bros Discovery isn't Twitter or Telsa: a company run mainly by one person. Isn't it better to assume Zaslav is just a sort of hatchet man, just like Chris Licht was for CNN. If Zaslav doesn't fulfill the wishes of the Board and major stockholders, he will be out just like Licht was from CNN. With regards to TCM: sorry to be a Debbie downer, but I assume what the execs\board is doing here is just repositioning after taking such an unexpected media hit. I.e. They still might have plans to kill TCM but are just going to do so, more slowly, with less negative press\exposure.

I guess only time will tell whether the preservation of TCM is more than just temporary.
One aspect of the overall situation that makes me a little bit optimistic is that Warner Bros. Discovery is a primarily show business company and will want to have good relations with the Hollywood folks who are big TCM fans. (That wasn’t necessarily the case with previous corporate owner AT&T, although I give them credit for mostly leaving TCM alone.) If the price of such good relations is spending relatively little money on TCM, they may view that as a small price to pay.
Or not. I’m just speculating.
And it may be a smart strategy to repeatedly give credit to Zaslav for preserving TCM. Not only does that give him both the good press he desires and also possible professional friendships with top Hollywood people like Spielberg, but it also means that Zaslav “owns” the TCM preservation decision. With that, any reversal of the TCM preservation decision means that the top guy has to admit he made a mistake. I would guess he would be hesitant to do so — along with giving up some valuable Hollywood friendships.
Just some speculation...

It's an interesting lineup. I'm unsure TCM has ever shown One Eyed Jacks before.
