Hello! I used to lurk around the TCM board. Glad to see this site is up and running. I just watched an intro hosted by Tiffany Vasquez (sp?) on the TCM app. I don't remember her, but there was a long stretch of time when I didn't watch much TV. Was she a regular host on TCM or just a temp for when RO was sick? Or somebody famous I should know about? lol

I just watched an intro hosted by Tiffany Vasquez (sp?) on the TCM app. I don't remember her, but there was a long stretch of time when I didn't watch much TV. Was she a regular host on TCM or just a temp for when RO was sick? Or somebody famous I should know about? lol She came on board during the 20th anniversary month (April 2014), first as a fan programmer...then they ended up hiring her permanently. I think the idea was to expand Ben's role so Robert could cut back on some duties...and that meant they needed someone on weekends to take over what Ben had been doing. Tiffany's segments aired on Saturday...maybe some on Sunday? (not sure)...and she also appeared at festivals and on cruises.
There was a huge uproar about her on the old boards. She was someone people either liked/tolerated or despised with a passion. Complaints ranged from criticism of her voice to criticism of her youth/ethnicity/gender to criticism that she didn't have the same knowledge of film as Robert or Ben...you name it, the complainers tarred and feathered her on the old board.
Unfortunately, she struggled to really hit her groove...if you watch some of the wraparounds she did, she seems to come across a bit uneasy some of the time, a little too self-conscious, not entirely natural. But she was passable...she was at the very least average/decent...just not great and in this business, you have to be charismatic and natural.
She was demoted to social media and P.R., taken off the air...then gradually she was just phased out, probably because they were trying to find a way to use her while her contract ran out. It was a situation that didn't work out. She was pretty much gone by the time Robert Osborne disappeared from the airwaves in 2016, which meant Ben ascended the throne rather quickly and all kinds of other hosts started joining the team.

Thanks for the info. Given the set she was on, I thought she might have been a regular host. I only watched one of her intros (for Bhawani Junction), but I think I could have liked her.

Check out my YouTube Channel. I have about 16 of Tiffany's Wrap-Arounds posted. Here is the earliest one I have posted so far.

I wasn't on the TCM message board back when she was a host, so I had no idea there was all the controversy about her that Topbilled explained even going on. I liked her without putting a lot of analysis into it. I thought she was personable and seemed to be enthusiastic about the movies she introduced. I missed her when she disappeared.

I could not understand the animosity towards her. I thought, gee, if you don't like it, then skip watching TCM on Saturdays. Or DVR everything and fast-forward over her intros.
Another problem is that sometimes her wraparounds had errors in them (which happens to all the hosts, even Robert's wraparounds sometimes contained the wrong info)...but when she said something in error, they really raked her over the coals, implying she didn't know classic movies very well, instead of blaming the person who wrote the wraparound.
She was put into a difficult position, brand new, trying to win over viewers.
Yancey and I talked about this once before...she needed time to be eased gradually into the role, instead of them just throwing her out there without a safety net.

I feel badly there was all that going on about her, as again, I just took her as she was and enjoyed her "wraparounds." I thought she was "growing into the role" nicely and, then, she seemed gone in a minute.
I wonder what she's doing now / if she's even still in the broadcast business as it sounds as if she kind of got "dropped in it" by chance.

I liked Tiffany, as well. As mentioned above, not great, but passable. She seemed to enjoy film make-up and wardrobe, and when she spoke about it, I got the feeling it was something she wanted in her wraparound and not just something she was reading from a teleprompter. I believe she works for "Giphy": twitter.com/filmiliarface

Well, I probably shouldn't jump in here since I loathed Tiffany Vasquez as a host but it wasn't personal. She was simply completely unqualified to be an on-air host on TCM and I could never figure out why she was hired in the first place when there were probably 1,000 (at least) qualified on-air talent who could have done the job better. I agree that whosever idea it was to hire her is to blame. Clearly management wanted a young woman host (no problem with that idea) but they didn't want to spend much money so they ended up with a complete amateur. TCM viewers were owed better. Watching her was painful (and, yes, I eventually skipped watching any intros she did) and then they kept screwing with her appearance, her approach, what set she appeared on, etc. etc. which only made everything worse. Hiring her was one of the rare missteps of TCM management.

BUT------------------------------------- Sepiatone I guess I could have taken the time to post ALL the intros and Wrap-Ups but thought it was easier the way I did it. No Spam was intended!

I agree that there was an amateurish vibe, but that litany of interference from on high which you listed must have been very unsettling for someone trying to get her sea legs under her. "Set up to fail" I believe is the phrase. I appreciated her female energy, especially in contrast to Ben, though I'll admit that Alicia has more cred as a movie host than Tiffany did. And I think the graphics for her segments were some of the best the TCM art department (?) ever did, really colorful and really evocative of movie history and style. None of her intros available have the graphics, which is a shame.

Tiffany did seem set up to fail or at least not helped with her presentation. And I suspected she was chosen as a token Hispanic. Rude suspicion, but the quality of the intros didn't seem the same as for other presenters.

Even our esteemed Robert Osborne made a mistake once in a while, which I always found kind of surprising.
