It's a shame he isn't a household name from the era. I still have many of his films to catch-up on, but his performances in Body and Soul, The Postman Always Rings Twice, Force of Evil and The Breaking Point cement his status as one of the legends of Classic Hollywood.
He should also be known as a truly selfless, patriotic person for his collaboration with Bette Davis in creating The Hollywood Canteen. Can you imagine any Hollywood stars today putting their career on hold for years to serve and volunteer for servicemen and women? The stars of yester-year were truly a different breed.
