for having somebody other than steven spielberg direct an Indiana Jones film. no doubt Harrison Ford is happy with his paycheck. maybe sucky disney would feel more inspired doing a movie with Kylo Ren knocking off Indy.

So, was it a case of Disney NOT asking Spielberg to direct the movie?
Or rather Spielberg saying, "No thanks".

I read another article claiming Spielberg was not too excited about reviving the series, even for The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008. In addition, he appears to have deliberately steered from the rose-tinted sentimentality of his past for more reflective, personal projects. I am not surprised he elected to hand the reigns over to another director.

I dunno.... All this horsesh!t about "handing over the reigns to a younger generation" sounds like a lot of PR placating to me.Something that might work at shutting a lot of people up.

Disney's on quite a losing streak these days. For all I care, it can go belly up. It doesn't produce anything really good anymore, anyway.
I just wish Pixar wasn't going down with it.

Sepiatone True. Spielberg would not tell the truth either way. He took much ridicule for the implausible excesses in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, such as the "nuking the fridge" idea. Lucas later admitted that much of the absurdities in the 2008 film were his own, but Spielberg opted to take much of the blame. In this case, Spielberg likely was phased out for a fresher director, but he does seem to have been genuinely apathetic about revamping Indiana Jones. Who knows? It looks like it bombed at the box office.
