So he was once upon a time in charge of TCM? What happened on his "watch?"

I haven't been able to find much about his tenure at TCM, other than he was briefly "interim president for one year in 2019.
I did just read the following from "The Wrap,":
"This week’s changes will see the number of employees at TCM slashed from about 90 to about 20, according to insiders."
If that is true, that means the five hosts make up 25% of the total TCM workforce. That is insane.

A cut of 90 to 20 means there has to be serious change if at least most of those 90 were doing some real work, as 20 can't do what 90 do. My guess, many of the extras - like those nearly monthly montages - will have to go. I would also guess a lot of the scheduling will be less thoughtful, but we'll see.

It's just bizarre to me that the powers that be are picking on TCM, when TCM's expenses are nothing more than a slight blip in the entirety of WB's budget.
TCM owns the vast majority of the films it airs and I can't fathom it has a big operating budget. If you're looking to trim fat, I can't comprehend how slashing TCM's budget really makes a big impact.

The hosts have contracts with TCM so they are not as easily let go. The payouts to them if they were terminated prior to the end of their contract would be enormous. I am positive they will let several (if not all) go. I think the hosted intros to films will disappear within the year.

Those promos are so creative and well done, and they are fun to rewatch on TCM's YouTube channel years later.

All I can say is I've been worried about this for a long time now. I've sounded off about it many times.
When the got rid of the voice overs for the up-coming schedules. When the up-coming schedules started saying next and later instead of the actual times.
When they got rid of the printed guide. When they foisted that insipid Wine Club on us. When they charged people to join a TCM Club. When they rebranded TCM with their Where then meets now BS.
etc.
Recently they took away the set used by Dave Karger and Alicia Malone and put them on Ben's cold ugly set.
If they got rid of 70 employees - 70 mind you - What's left of the TCM we used to know and love itself will soon be a fond memory.

Also, 1)on TCM's website, we could no longer look into the following month; no schedule would be viewable until the first day of the month. 2) They let Millie De Chirico go and dissolved the UNDERGROUND weekly series. 3) They closed our TCM message board community.

I have often seen people suggest that Criterion or Scorsese/Spielberg, etc. just purchase TCM themselves to protect it. I don't believe that's a remote possibility, because they would have to license out entire film libraries. TCM can only exist within WB because WB owns the rights to thousands of WB, MGM and RKO films. So, if Warner decides to dissolve TCM, there isn't likely a plan B.
Unless, they were to contract TCM out to another company. Reports have suggested that WB will be licensing certain material to Netflix. If this happens, is there a chance they could do the same for TCM?

Totally agree with everything you have said and don't forget, they shut down the TCM Message Boards which for many of us was our "home away from home." I think the key thing is that the new regime will be asking folks (writers/editors etc.) who create content on other networks to do the same for TCM. But, if you do promos for "Adult Swim" are you really the kind of person who should be working on classic movie promos? To create effective content for TCM you need to know and love classic films. Ah, but I forget. The new regime could care less about classic films (despite all the BS Zaslav has been putting out there!) He is getting completely skewered in the press currently, not just for the TCM firings but for screwing up a variety of other things. But, hey. If he makes more $$ for the parent company, who cares about beloved networks and quality programming. Here's another article on this jerk: www.laineygossip.com/turner-classic-movies-is-being-gutted-by-warners-david-zaslav-and-ryan-reynolds-is-not-a-fan/74305

Boomerang is basically Cartoon Network-lite and Adult Swim, despite its more promising name, is pitched to young adults, like the ones who can't abide black and white movies and couldn't identify Claudette Colbert or Gary Cooper if their life depended on it. Let's play a game: which of these things is not like the others?
