Thought I would make a thread if anyone subscribes to the Criterion Channel and can relay anything fun they watched. This month of November has a lot of good Film Noir. www.criterionchannel.com/november-noir

Thank you, this is a good topic. I currently am not subscribing to the Criterion Channel but I appreciate the discussion. The list of Noir films to start is a strong list of movies, several of which have not been shown on Noir Alley yet. For example, Eddie has still not shown The Naked City. Perhaps he doesn't consider it dark enough, but it's obviously a great film. It will be nice to see other suggestions here.

Unfortunately, the list of apps available on my TV doesn't include the Criterion Channel and I'm not excited about watching movies on my 14" laptop - although, I do from time to time.
My guess, one day the app will appear (that happens now and then) and I'll add it, till then, I look forward to reading everyone's comments here.
I was really surprised to read that "The Naked City" had never been on Noir Alley.

Here is the list of Criterion November Noir titles with notes:
> Out of the Fog The Glass Key This Gun for Hire Detour Fallen Angel (Fox) > The Blue Dahlia > The Dark Corner (Fox) The Postman Always Rings Twice Kiss of Death (Fox) Brute Force > The Naked City > Call Northside 777 (Fox) Force of Evil > Cry of the City (Fox) Thieves’ Highway (Fox) > Caught The Breaking Point > Panic in the Streets (Fox) He Ran All the Way > The House on Telegraph Hill (Fox) Sweet Smell of Success
> - indicates that this has not yet been featured on Noir Alley (Fox) - indicates that this is a 20th Century Fox production. These are less likely to be shown on TCM.

Looking forward to a Garfield binge. Too bad they're only 10. One of my favorite actors from that era to watch.

So far I've watched 2/8 of the Fox Noir collection, and plan on finishing; all are ones I've never seen before with the exception of "House on Telegraph Hill." I plan on doing the Veronica Lake films I haven't seen (the 3 with Alan Ladd), and finishing up some from the John Garfield (the ones that interest me). Recently, I watched and really enjoyed "On Dangerous Ground" (1951); I love Ida Lupino, and Robert Ryan is alright himself too.

View Attachment I'm with you on Lupino, who somehow, despite her delicate bone structure and wisp-like body, exudes strength. My only quibble with her in "On Dangerous Ground" is that the movie's almost half over before she appears.
Now Ryan, on the other hand, exudes strength the old-fashioned way with an overwhelming physical presence and an intimidatingly craggy face.

Criterion Channel's December lineup will feature many fantastic screwball comedies. They've released about 9 of these on Blu-ray and I've heard they will upgrade Twentieth Century at some point in the future. I would love to see Ball of Fire and The More the Merrier restored and released some day soon. Thankfully, I've had them on my DVR for years and it's always a joy to watch them. Here's the December lineup. - The Front Page
- Me & My Gal
- Twentieth Century
- It Happened One Night
- My Man Godfrey
- Theodora Goes Wild
- Love Is News
- Easy Living
- The Awful Truth
- Holiday
- Bluebeard’s Eighth Wife
- Midnight
- His Girl Friday
- The Lady Eve
- Ball of Fire
- Sullivan’s Travels
- The Palm Beach Story
- To Be or Not to Be
- The More the Merrier
- The Miracle of Morgan’s Creek
- Hail the Conquering Hero
- Murder, He Says
- It Happens Every Spring
- Rhubarb
- You Never Can Tell

This month on Criterion, Screwball Comedies. I just started Love is News which I never heard of before: Love Is News Directed by Tay Garnett • 1937 • United States Starring Tyrone Power, Loretta Young, Don Ameche A hotshot reporter, a madcap heiress, and a rivalry that gradually gives way to romance? We must be in a 1930s screwball—and a delightful one at that. Steve Leyton (Tyrone Power, in his first top-billed role) is the prying paparazzo determined to get the scoop on the love life of socialite Tony Gateson (Loretta Young). The tables turn when Tony announces that she is in fact engaged to Steve—bringing the glare of the media spotlight on him and giving the harried reporter a taste of his own medicine. Just imagine Loretta Young's character as a social media influencer, targeted by a traditional journalist/troll...and voila, "love" 2022 style!

Really starting to like Joan Bennett quite a bit; hadn't seen much of her work before this. She falls into that category of woman that reminds me of the Nick Charles line from Thin Man: "lanky brunettes with wicked jaws."
