Available on Apple TV.
Michael J Fox talks about his life, career, and struggle to with Parkinson's. It's striking to see clips of the younger Fox running, skateboarding, wise-cracking cut in with the current Fox who struggles to take a few steps without falling or who gets tired just trying to get out a few sentences.
He was diagnosed with Parkinson's in his late 20s, keeping it a secret for 9 years from his co-workers and the public. While working on Spin City the symptoms became too hard to control or hide. They show clips where you can see housing a prop or crossing his arms to hide his tremors. I've liked Fox in several things but can't say I'm a huge fan but it was an interesting doc. He was honest about his faults but for the most seems like a very likeable guy. It's not as depressing as one might imagine. He has a loving family and the resources to have things like a person physical therapist. One thing they didn't address is why or how did he get Parkinson's at such a young age.

There was an interview on CBS Sunday Morning last month in advance of the documentary. For those who don't get Apple TV (I'm one.) I'll post it here. As for how he got it at such an early age, he says that "genetics loads the gun and environment pulls the trigger". He recounts that he, Woody Harrelson and some others "did some damage" in the 1980's and that in his case he thinks the cause could have been "chemical", without specifically referencing any recreational drugs, but the Harrelson connection makes that likely. No judgement; all that means is that he was a kid of the 80's. I agree that he seems to have a beautifully supportive family, which is what counts the most.

Thank you for posting that video, I Love Melvin. The documentary talked about his partying but did not go into any family history of Parkinson's. Getting it so young, he's got to be breaking some kind of record for the person living the longest with the disease. Another unrelated part of the documentary talked about how Fox replaced Eric Stoltz in Back to the Future. Fun to see clips of Stoltz in the familiar scenes. Just FYI, my wife got a 3 months free offer of Apple TV through Target Circle. There's not much on Apple now that Ted Lasso is over but people might want to see if they can get the same offer thru Target. We'll be cancelling later this month when the offer expires.
