TCM has *not* yet posted schedule listings for June, 2023. However, TCM has posted an overview of the primetime titles through June 12. Katharine Hepburn is Star of the Month (her third time). Additional details are available at my schedule information page: escapepress.com/tcmsched/tcm_overview.htmlThis information will be updated when details are provided by TCM.

I can't believe there is no birthday tribute to Dean Martin on June 7th! If there isn't on the final schedule, I will be VERY disappointed in TCM! There was last year! Are the kids doing the schedule so young that they don't know what a major force in show business he was in the 20th century?

I am glad Kate will be Star of the Month in June...though she is very much honored by TCM. Usually they try to feature an LGBTQ star in June, so does this mean they will be outing her with a new documentary?
I have long felt that her 'relationship' with Spencer Tracy was mostly a P.R. creation. In her later years, she lived with a female companion, her 'secretary' Phyllis Wilbourn, and their relationship dated back to the 1950s. Wilbourn was her true partner, not Spence.

I highly doubt that TCM is "outing" Hepburn. If they want to honor Pride month there are other people and films that would actually fit that theme.

TCM rarely does birthday tributes unless it is some unique anniversary one like 100 or 125. If they did 80% or more of their daily programing would be honoring actors and others in the film industry with birthday tributes.

I see you're using the name William Haines. And he's someone who hasn't even had a day in August. Very much neglected by TCM's programmers.

There is no specific factual basis, that I know of, too place Kate Hepburn into a specific sexual orientation.

Allow me to ask without judgment, but to clarify. Are we assuming that people of same sex living together must be homosexual?
Again, without judgment, but to clarify, does this change our thinking on their acting ability, change how we view their work? What is the importance of knowing their sexuality in their personal life?

I don't know how many TCM viewers would agree with you that "outing" Hepburn is not problematic. I'm not a fan of outing people who, in their lifetime, did not come out or where there is not indisputable proof of their preferences. Hepburn is no longer here to weigh in on such matters. In addition to Tracy, she had an affair with Howard Hughes and was married briefly to Ludlow Ogden Smith. I'm no Hepburn expert but if their relationship was fake, it caused his wife much pain and probably embarrassment. It seems she could have gotten someone less complicated to be her beard, if that was the case. He was also a difficult person, struggling with drinking. I believe that Hepburn & Tracy had a long term affair.

I think there is a need for some of the deceased stars to be outed. They were kept in the closet during their lifetime and in my opinion it is patently ridiculous for them to still be kept in the closet long after their deaths, just because it will make homophobic, biphobic and transphobic people more 'comfortable' watching their films.
It was either last summer or the summer before, can't remember exactly when, that TCM did a series in June on LGBTQ directors. And they included Charles Laughton in that group with a screening of THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER. For years it has been speculated Laughton was gay, but people like Maureen O'Hara vehemently denied it. Yet, there TCM was 'outing' him. So at some point, it becomes fair game and history is revised to classify various individuals as LGBTQ.
When I mentioned Kate and Phyllis earlier, it was not gossip. A friend of mine who is a film professor on the east coast, an out gay man, had been invited to Kate and Phyllis' home more than once when he was younger. He showed me a letter that Kate had written for him, to help him get a job when he was in his 20s. He said that she was gay and Phyllis was her companion. I don't see any reason for him to have made that up.
When I started researching the couple's relationship, I found articles that had mentioned them over the years (and photos) which alluded to the true nature of their relationship. Phyllis did assist Kate, but it seems they sort of hid behind her 'job' for Kate to remain closeted about the fact they were intimate and not just employer and employee.
I know it kind of shatters the lovely P.R. myths about Kate and Spence...but I am sure people can get over that. My guess is that Kate and Spence were merely pals who got on great and enjoyed working together. Also, I would say that they helped hide each others' secrets. And studio P.R. aided those efforts considerably.

There are rumors about current stars being closeted. Why not out them? They can then speak to their experiences, where deceased stars cannot.

In the past, TCM has also added special themes in June that are LGBTQ-related. For example, in June 2020 TCM dedicated 2 days to ‘LGBTQ Critics’ on the 12th and 26th. (The Star of the Month was Ann Sheridan.) In June 2021 TCM dedicated 2 days to ‘LGBTQ Icons’ on the 11th and 28th. (The Star of the Month was Cyd Charisse.) In June 2022, TCM dedicated Mondays to ‘LGBTQ Directors’. (The Star of the Month was Judy Garland.) So TCM could devote other days in June to an LGBTQ topic this year. If I had to guess, I would say that something on the remaining Mondays is likely since those are the only weeknights that are still available for a theme and Dave Karger happens to be the regular host on that day.
It will be interesting to see if anything else is apparent once a more complete schedule is posted.
