Did Walter Pidgeon ever have whitened hair in any other movie? It's an interesting choice for him.

Never trust a man with two toned shoes!
(Still flipping back and fourth on my PC.) I know what your family needs to buy you for Mother's day.
It's too hard doing what you're doing.

William Holden, despite top billing, has a delayed 'entrance' and finally appears at the 12 minute mark.
This was the first time he and Barbara Stanwyck had costarred since 1939's GOLDEN BOY at Columbia, which was his screen debut.
***
Stanwyck had previously worked with Paul Douglas in CLASH BY NIGHT (1952).

A film like this proves what a skilled actor Louis Calhern was...he is already out in front, creating a very memorable character with a specific agenda.

Beverly Michaels would have been great as the blonde girlfriend.
"We should have been tailors." Great tossed-off line.

Good things come to she who waits.
I don't even really understand why I like him so much given some other concerns. It is a very odd state of affairs.

I am loving the look of the film, great verite shots....
Sorry to see...
Folsey was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography 13 times but never won. Eight months before his death, he was honored with the first Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the American Society of Cinematographers, for which he served as president in 1956–1957.

It's a professional production from every aspect. MGM spent money on this one.

I think Paul Douglas had a winning personality...but I always get the impression he's just playing himself, not any specific character.

Did Walter Pidgeon ever have whitened hair in any other movie? It's an interesting choice for him. It also looks like there might be some "extra hair" added in too.

"What am I here for?"
Calhern's look in response is perfect.
