Fa fa fashion made me watch the video for the Bowie song - instead I will spin a couple of Valley Girl tunes.
The Payola's song didn't make the album soundtrack for some reason. Too Canadian perhaps for a valley song? You have to love the Hollywood movie theatre theme of their video even if the song isn't your cup of tea.
And from the Valley Girl trivia files... The producers of this film approached Frank Zappa about making a film based on his hit single "Valley Girl" but he refused, leading the producers to make the film without his involvement. Zappa later sued them but lost the case.
After Randy, Julie, Stacey and Fred have entered the Central music club, the marquee advertises Chuck E Weiss, New Orleans musician, friend of Tom Waits and the subject of the Rickie Lee Jones song "Chuck E.'s in Love."
During the filming of 1983's Valley Girl, Katey Sagal was scheduled to sing at The Central. Her name can be seen in the schedule of upcoming acts, posted inside the door.
And of course The Plimsouls play-ish. If I had my way all movies would contain a current musical act hidden somewhere - in obscurity or in plain site.
Modern English - I Melt With You
The Payolas - Eyes Of A Stranger

When I think of a ValleyGirl playlist I think of KROQ's playlist in the fall of 1980 which, I'm confident, included the following tune which shares an oversight with the Payola$ song:

I clearly don't get out as much as you or me or anyone else thinks I do for I don't know Gary Myrick & the Figures at all - great little ditty you posted. He sounds quite interesting... Myrick continues to play solo but also performs as a session and touring guitarist. He has worked with Big Audio Dynamite, Jackson Browne, members of the Eagles, Steve Jones (former guitarist of the Sex Pistols), Wilson Pickett, Queen Ida, Bonnie Raitt, Todd Rundgren, Brian Wilson, Stevie Wonder and others. He has also done some work scoring films. And he contributed the Train Kept A-Rollin track on this 2021 album that I also missed being issued...
